  Cabernet Sauvignon Rattlesnake
The second release of this limited production Cabernet Sauvignon was crafted by blending only the best barrels among various lots from two vineyards located on the Rattlesnake Hills. The Elephant Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon was bold and powerful with great blackberry flavors, while the Spring Creek showed more finesse with soft velvety tannins and bright raspberry aromas and flavors. We created this wine by blending 55 percent Cabernet from Spring Creek for the intensity and purity of the fruit character, and 45 percent from Elephant Mountain to add backbone to the wine. The addition of Malbec and Cabernet Franc brings some intense floral notes to this complex wine. This dark-hued Cabernet Sauvignon reveals an intense nose with vibrant fruit characteristics like Bing cherry, blackberry and licorice aromas. A smooth and fruity entry, followed by a medium-bodied mid-palate with refined tannins and great acidity, leads to a crisp finish with blackberry, cranberry and nutty flavors.
  Malbec
We gently destemmed the grapes without crushing them to obtain more full berries and then cold soaked for one or two days before starting fermentation. We pressed before dryness to obtain soft and rounded tannins and preserve the original fruit expression. After aging both Malbec lots separately for 20 months in American oak barrels, we finally blended them together (85% Pepperbridge and 15% Doval) and added some of our 2002 Merlot blend to enhance the complexity of our Malbec. Our 2002 Sagelands Vineyard Malbec presents a very intense color with a deep inky purple hue, which is characteristic of this varietal. This wine displays a fragrant nose of floral and fruity aromas with some violet, boysenberry, honey and toast. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine reveals a lush and refreshing palate, with integrated soft tannins and a splash of floral perfume on the lingering finish. The perfect combination of ripe fruit, supple tannins and lively acidity is demonstrated in the excellent balance of this elegant wine. This Malbec is very approachable upon release and it will continue to improve within the next few years.
  Merlot Rose
Our 2002 Merlot Rosé is a refreshing summer wine with just a touch of residual sugar. The fruity aromas are vibrant with a note of strawberry, and the palate is elegant with crisp acidity and a pleasant smooth finish. Serve this Rosé chilled, paired with light pasta dishes, grilled fish and vegetables, salads, pizza, goat cheese crostinis and any Provençal specialties. You can also enjoy sipping this light wine before dinner, al fresco on the patio, accompanied with some antipasti or tapas.
  Merlot Rose Four Corners
This slightly dry Rosé was crafted using the traditional way of “saignée.” This French term refers to the running off, or bleeding, of first-run juice from red grapes. After a maceration time of 48 hours, the dark hue and flavorful juice was fermented at cold temperatures like a white wine to preserve its natural appeal. With a very attractive and bright ruby color, this dry Merlot Rosé reveals a vibrant red fruit expression with strawberry and pomegranate aromas. The refreshing mouth is balanced with crisp acid and berry flavors in mid-palate, ending with a smooth, pleasing finish.

  Cabernet Sauvignon Four Corners
We gently destemmed the grapes without crushing them to obtain more full berries and then cold soaked for a day or two. Compared to past vintages, we decreased the pumpovers and maceration time in order to reduce the polyphenolic extraction to create softer wines with well-integrated tannins. We blended our Cabernet Sauvignon with the other four traditional Bordeaux varietal. Merlot not only softens the tannins of our Cabernet Sauvignon, but also enhances its complexity and fruitiness. Cabernet Franc adds a floral and herbal touch, while Malbec, fragrant and dark as ink, amplifies the color and the nose of this blend. Finally, Petit Verdot adds a hint of blueberry. The 2001 Sagelands Cabernet Sauvignon reveals an intense nose of Bing cherry aroma, and a delicate touch of sweet vanilla and caramel. On the palate, this wine shows bright cherry flavors, round tannins and a touch of cocoa powder on the lingering finish. Although this wine can be enjoyed now, it will also improve with a few years of aging thanks to the great balance between fruit, acidity and tannins.
  Cabernet Sauvignon Four Corners
Our grapes come from the "Four Corners", a quartet of distinct growing regions within Washington state's Columbia Valley. Combining traditional methods and modern technology, we harmoniously blend these grapes to take advantage of each region's unique character. This allows us to create a more complex and versatile mosaic than is possible from a single source.
  Cabernet Sauvignon Rattlesnake
All of the lots were fermented and aged in barrels separately, so we were able to monitor the quality of each block from each vineyard. After a year of aging, we started playing with the lots to make the final blend. The Elephant Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon was bold and powerful with great blackberry flavors, while the Spring Creek Cabernet Sauvignon showed more finesse with soft velvety tannins and bright raspberry aromas and flavors. We created this wine by blending 76 percent Cabernet Sauvignon from Spring Creek for the intensity and purity of the fruit character and 24 percent from Elephant Mountain to add backbone to the wine.We then refined it in oak barrels for a few extra months before bottling. Our 2001 Sagelands Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Rattlesnake reveals an intense nose characterized by rich, ripe fruit characteristics with Bing cherry aromas. On the palate, licorice and vanilla flavors complement the round mouthfeel with subdued tannins and a lingering finish. Crafted to be enjoyed in its youth, this wine will also improve with a few years of aging, thanks to the great balance between fruit, acidity and tannins.
  Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot Freddie's Blend
We gently destemmed the grapes without crushing them to obtain more full berries then cold soaked the grapes in their juice for a day or two. To create softer wines with well-integrated tannins, we reduced the polyphenolic extraction by decreasing the number of pump-overs and the maceration time, compared to previous vintages. What began as an experiment in blending Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Cabernet Franc and Merlot turned out so good that we had to bottle it by itself. Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and style; Merlot not only softens the tannins of our Cabernet Sauvignon but also enhances its complexity and fruitiness; and Cabernet Franc brings a floral and herbal touch to the blend. Since we didn’t have a name for the blend, the cellar crew started calling it Freddie’s Blend, after my nickname at the winery, but it really is the work of the entire team.
  Chardonnay Columbia Valley
The handpicked Chardonnay grapes were carefully hand sorted to control quality before the whole clusters were placed in the press. After gentle pressing and cold settling, the juice was racked off gross lees and inoculated with selected yeast. Most of the juice was fermented in stainless steel tank at cold temperature to preserve its freshness and the full expression of the varietal character. A small portion of the blend was fermented and aged in new French Oak barrels. We stir the fine fermentation lees for few months before racking tanks and barrels to enhance complexity and richness of the mid-palate. The appearance of this wine is bright with an appealing pale gold color. The nose shows ripe apple and Anjou pear aromas with a light note of golden peach, and honeysuckle. The palate is very crisp and refreshing with green apple, tropical fruit, citrus, and vanilla flavors. This food-friendly wine framed with good acidity and body finishes with a delicate toasty note.
  Freddie's Blend Columbia Valley
This Bordeaux-style wine is the creation of our winemaker, Frédérique Spencer, who is a master blender. After gentle destemming, the grapes were cold soaked for two days. Pumpovers and maceration time were kept to a minimum in order to create a soft wine with well-integrated tannins. The wine was aged in barrels for 12 months in separate lots. After blending, the wine was filtered and bottled. Bright garnet in color, the 2002 Freddie’s Blend reveals an intense nose of Bing cherry, red plum and marionberry, with a delicate touch of sweet vanilla and spices. On the palate, the wine shows bright cherry flavors, round tannins and a touch of cedar and cinnamon on the lingering finish. Pairs nicely with pork tenderloin with plum sauce, roasted herb chicken and warm chocolate desserts spiced with a touch of cinnamon.
  Malbec
We gently destemmed the grapes for the Sagelands 2003 Malbec without crushing to retain more whole berries, then cold soaked them for one to two days before fermentation. This allowed us to obtain a softer wine with more fruit expression. After aging the wine for 15 months in American oak, we added a portion of Cabernet Sauvignon to enhance the complexity and depth. An attractive garnet color with a purple hue, the wine displays a fragrant nose of floral and fruity aromas with some violet, mixed berries and intense toast from the barrels. Lush and refreshing on the palate, with integrated soft tannins and a splash of floral perfume on the lingering finish, this Malbec is very approachable upon release and will continue to improve within the next few years.
  Merlot Four Corners
We gently destemmed the grapes without crushing them to obtain more full berries and then cold soaked for one or two days before inoculating for fermentation. Fewer pump-overs and shorter maceration time than in the past helped create a softer wine with velvety tannins. After aging all the lots separately in mostly American oak barrels for 12 months, we finally blended together the wines from the Four Corners to enhance each single vineyard's characteristics and to produce a wine of great expression. This year, the addition of selected Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah enriched the mid-palate and also enhanced the ultimate flavors. This bright garnet-color Merlot displays a vibrant nose of ripe Bing cherry and mixed berries with notes of violet and cocoa. This delicate and medium-bodied wine shows a great deal of flavors like Bing cherry, vanilla and a splash of blueberry. The palate is very soft and round thanks to fine tannins. The fruit expression lingers on a pleasing finish.

  Merlot Rose
This light rosé wine was crafted using the traditional way of saignée. This French term for bleeding refers to running off some free-run juice from the red grape fermenter at an early stage with the purpose of concentrating the final red wine. After a maceration of 48 hours, the pink colored and flavorful juice was bled off and fermented at cold temperature as typical for a white wine to preserve its natural appeal. With a very attractive and pale ruby color, our Merlot Rosé reveals a vibrant red fruit expression with strawberry and raspberry aromas. The refreshing mouth is balanced with pleasant acidity and berry flavors, ending with a hint of vanilla and an appealing smooth finish.
  Pinot Gris
The grapes were hand sorted before filling the press with whole clusters. After settling and racking, the free run juice was inoculated with yeast and fermented in stainless steel tanks, then aged on its lees for five months. We preserved the freshness of this wine and the full expression of the varietal characteristics by forgoing malolactic fermentation and barrel aging. With a light straw color, this Pinot Gris displays a bright fruity nose with aromas of lemon zest, green apple and spicy, mineral nuances. The rich, almost mouth-coating palate is layered with fresh-fruit flavors of citrus, pear and melon. Grapefruit and white pepper notes give a twist to the finish. Lively acidity and pleasant fruitiness make it an excellent match with food and a great alternative to Chardonnay.
  Pinot Gris Oregon
At the winery, we hand sorted the grapes again for a final inspection before filling the press with whole clusters. During pressing,we separated the hard press juice from the free-run and light press juices to minimize harsh phenol and color extraction from the pinkish-reddish skins. After settling and racking the must from gross lees, the juice was inoculated with yeast and slowly fermented in stainless steel tanks at a low temperature. Then it was aged on its fine lees for five months to add complexity and richness. Sauvignon Blanc
The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks at a cool temperature and then aged on its fine lees for a few months to add complexity and richness. We blended in one percent Semillon to soften the mid-palate. We made our 2002 Sauvignon Blanc in a dry style, with no oak aging, to preserve its freshness and the full expression of the varietal characteristics. The nose shows bright citrus aromas of lemon and grapefruit, with mineral notes.
