Oakford Estate & Vineyards

Oakford Estate & Vineyards Oakford is located on the west side of the Napa Valley above Oakville on steeply terraced hillsides that favor the planting of top quality Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are stressed from growing in the relatively infertile siltstone indigenous to the area, and as a result produce lower yields of fruit with concentrated flavors. Hillside planting places the vines above the early morning fogs of the valley floor, while the mountain range above shades the vines during the most intense late afternoon hours. This superior terroir contributes to the intense flavors that are the hallmark of Oakford Cabernet Sauvignon. We now have three Cabernet Sauvignons from Oakford for 2001, our Oakford Estate, an Oakville Beckstoffer Tokalon Vineyard, and a Rutherford Beckstoffer.

Oakford Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard
A hedonist’s wine alive with nuances of bright berry, blueberry, and tobacco, this wine conveys utmost sophistication with its complex layers, polished tannins, and a finish that lingers long on the palate.
Oakford Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherford Beckstoffer Vineyard
In the mouth, opulent layers of cassis, blackberry, vanilla, and espresso coat the tongue while hints of roasted herbs and supple tannins tantalize the palate. An enjoyable wine that is approachable and balanced yet structured to age gracefully for many years.
  Oakford Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
From our Oakford Estate vineyard comes a wine that exudes characters of ripe cherry, plum, and tobacco with hints of cigar box and cedar. Well-extracted fruit and a dense tannin structure give a balanced elegance to this rich full-bodied wine.
  Oakford Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon
These wines are rich and ripe, the blackberry/cherry fruit flavors are the defining qualities on the nose. On the palette, these wines are lush and velvety, with loads of fruit and very soft tannins. As always with Oakford these wines may benefit from some time in bottle, up to 5 to 10 years, but don't hesitate to try some sooner than that! The total production from the '99 vintage is small, and it is an excellent example of the unique character that defines the Oakford Vineyard. The wine shows excellent balance between suppleness and power. A cedary, vanilla oak spice supplements the traditional expression of ripe, red fruit on the nose. While the wine has the structure to age well, it is also quite approachable due to this abundance of ripe fruit.
  Oakford Vineyards Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
This 100% Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon was bottled unfined and unfiltered to retain as much of its natural character as possible. The wine presents itself with an effusive aroma of blackberry and ripe red raspberry liqueur with underlying notes of brown spice and vanilla from the oak. On the palate, the wine is soft and juicy with very lush tannins and layers of fresh ripe fruit. On the finish, the fruit is framed by the subtle character of the oak, adding more spice and perfume.

This wine marks the first time Oakford has produced a non-estate grown wine. We felt the quality of this fruit is so good, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to bring it to you. The wine is a little more muscular than the Estate, with blacker fruit notes and cinnamon spice. This wine will benefit from two or three years of bottle age before approaching it's peak.
