Oakford Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon

Oakford Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Details
Price: $125.00 per bottle

Description: These wines are rich and ripe, the blackberry/cherry fruit flavors are the defining qualities on the nose. On the palette, these wines are lush and velvety, with loads of fruit and very soft tannins. As always with Oakford these wines may benefit from some time in bottle, up to 5 to 10 years, but don't hesitate to try some sooner than that! The total production from the '99 vintage is small, and it is an excellent example of the unique character that defines the Oakford Vineyard. The wine shows excellent balance between suppleness and power. A cedary, vanilla oak spice supplements the traditional expression of ripe, red fruit on the nose. While the wine has the structure to age well, it is also quite approachable due to this abundance of ripe fruit.

Varietal Definition
Cabernet Sauvignon:
Cabernet Sauvignon is the most widely planted and significant among the five dominant varieties in France’s Bordeaux region, as well as the most successful red wine produced in California. Though it was thought to be an ancient variety, recent genetic studies at U.C. Davis have determined that Cabernet Sauvignon is actually the hybrid offspring of Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon berries are small with black, thick and very tough skin. This toughness makes the grapes fairly resistant to disease and spoilage and able to withstand some autumn rains with little or no damage. It is a mid to late season ripener. These growth characteristics, along with its flavor appeal have made Cabernet Sauvignon one of the most popular red wine varieties worldwide.
