Desert Hills Winery

Desert Hills Winery Desert Hills winery owner Bill Burke and his wife, Lisa, acknowledge their world has changed. Their long-time passion for winemaking – originally a weekend hobby – has taken over their lives. For them, the greatest enjoyment comes in sharing their passion. Bill, Lisa and staff bring a new, fresh approach to winemaking, with the emphasis on high quality wines in a few, select varieties. Desert Hills Winery barreled 2,800 cases of wine in the start-up year of 2002. At Desert Hills Winery, our goal is to offer high quality wines for people looking for something special – something a little different. Stop by and savor the difference for yourself.

From Interstate 82, East or West, take exit 31 to North 1st Street. Travel south for .5 miles after getting on North 1st Street. We are on the right.   Cabernet Sauvignon
The Cabernet Sauvignon is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Horse Heaven Hills and 25% Merlot from the Horse Heaven Hills. The bouquet is very intense with black current, violets, leather, tobacco and medium toasted oak. The richness of the palate is alive with flavors of black currents, hints of tobacco and toasted oak. An explosion of flavors and tannins in this complex wine. "Highly Recommended" by Wine Press Northwest in its first International Wine Competition. This will be a wine to follow and will age nicely. Recommended dishes are steak, pork and lamb.
  Destiny Ridge Syrah
The 2002 Destiny Ridge Syrah is 100% syrah from the Destiny Ridge Vineyard. The bouquet has a lot of fruit forward, a hint of smoke and chocolate. The palate of this syrah will have a full mouth feel with lots of raspberries and black berries finishing with soft tannins. It is delicious with Thai, pork, pasta dishes and lamb.
  Destiny Ridge Syrah
This Syrah is 100% syrah from the Destiny Ridge Vineyard, the same as the 2002 syrah. It has a defining bouquet with dark berries, oak, leather, licorice and tobacco. As it's bouquet invites you, it follows thru with the taste of dark berries, oak, leather and tobacco with bolder tannins filling the mouth. It is delicious with steak, lamb, spicy fish dishes and pork.
Our Merlot is 75% merlot from Portteus Vineyards in Zillah and 25% cabernet sauvignon from the Horse Heaven Hills. The bouquet has dark fruit, a hint of smoke and chocolate. The merlot has a soft, full and velvety palate. Our merlot was the only Silver Medal winner at the Savor the Flavor Competition in the Tri-Cities 2005 and Bronze medal winner at the Washington State Fair Wine Competition in 2005. It is wonderful with pork, chicken and steak, a true complement.
  Portteus Vineyards Syrah
Our Portteus Vineyards Syrah is 100% syrah from Portteus Vineyards in Zillah. The intense bouquet has a complex, fragrant dark fruit with black licorice, smoke and vanilla overtones. The palate transcends the bouquet with more intensity of black berries, dark cherries, velvety tannins, hints of black licorice and oak coating the palate with a complexity of flavors. Our Syrah won Gold at the Washington State Wine Competition in 2005 and Bronze at the Savor the Flavor Wine Competition in the Tri-Cities 2005. It is a wonderful compliment to almost any meal.
  Red Wine
This our newest release for April 2006. A great new addition. Our Red Wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot and Syrah. Rich ripe berries with earthy hints of vanilla and toasted oak with a nice medium body for a full firm finish. Our Red Wine won Bronze in it's first competition at the 2006 Washington State Wine Competition.
Our Sangiovese is 100% Sangiovese grapes from the Pontin Del Roza Vineyard in Prosser, Washington. The bouquet is very fragrant with berries and violets. The palate is a balanced fruit forward with peppery overtones and a delicate hint of vanilla. This delicious wine is a Bronze medal winner from the Washington State Wine Competition in 2005 and a Bronze medal winner at Savor the Flavor in the Tri-Cities 2005. It is very complimentary with pasta dishes, BBQ, lamb and chicken.
