San Pasqual Winery Seaport Village
|
|
San Pasqual Winery is a small, family-owned winery located in La Mesa, California – about 15 miles east of San Diego. Although the namesake dates to the 1970’s when it was located in the San Pasqual Valley, the winery was later “reinvented” as San Diego’s first urban winery, earning it a spot on Sunset Magazine’s list of “Hot 100 West Coast Trends.” The winery is now located in the industrial area of La Mesa, with offsite tasting rooms nearby in the Village of La Mesa and downtown San Diego at Seaport Village. With annual production ranging from three to four thousand cases, most of our wine is sold directly from the winery and tasting room locations, allowing a more personal connection with the people who enjoy our wines.

"Balboa" Tempranillo
Medium bodied red blend, with an earthy, savory flavor of green and black olives. Tempranillo is a Spanish grape of the famed Rioja region. This wine is a good alternative for anyone looking for less berry and fruit in a wine. American oaked for 12 months. Grapes grown in Guadalupe Valley, Baja California, wine made in Escondido.
|
"Del Mar" Chardonnay
Dry, full-bodied, lightly oaked for 6 months. Flavors of banana, caramel, and butter. A very smooth and luxurious chardonnay. Grapes grown in Guadalupe Valley, Baja California, wine made in San Diego.
|
"Monte Soledad" (Tempranillo, Garnacha, Barbera, and Cabernet Sauvignon)
Tempranillo and garnacha are the standard bearers for Spain's Rioja wines. These two provide a stable base, the barbera provides fruitiness, and the Cabernet rounds out the body. This wine has a subtle anaïs nose. The palate consists of front-end black cherries and dried fruit, with slight notes of chocolate and warm spice (cloves) in the finish. It is drinkable now and would go well with lamb chops, duck, tomato pasta sauces, and especially Mexican mole sauce dishes. American oaked for 12-24 months (by varietal). Grapes: Guadalupe Valley. Produced: San Diego County.

"Ramona" Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc is a Bordeaux French varietal, often called the "most food-friendly" of wines. Our sauvignon blanc maintains the crisp and refreshing qualities that are the hallmark of this varietal, while sur lies aging lends a smooth quality. Aromas include nutty pear, citrus, and litchi. Grapefruit is prevalent in the palate, with a wet stone undertone (ever been in the desert during a quick rain? It reminds you of that). As our 2005 is full-bodied, it pairs well with strong cheese, Thai or Indian food, pork dishes, and "robust" seafood such as grilled swordfish. Grapes grown in Guadalupe Valley, Baja California, wine made in San Diego.

"Ramona" Sauvignon Blanc
Dry, light bodied Bordeaux French varietal. Fermented and aged in stainless steel for crisp fruitiness (no oak aging). Very easy on the palate and easy to drink. Grapes grown in Guadalupe Valley, Baja California, wine made in Escondido.

"Ranchero" (Cabernet and Nebbiolo)
Intense red blend, dry & very deep flavor. American oaked for 12 months. Cabernet Sauvignon is the backbone of wines from the left bank of Bordeaux, France. Nebbiolo is the basis for gorgeous wines from Northern Italy's Piedmont area, most notably from the appellation Barolo (inside of the Piedmont area). You may have heard of the "Super Tuscans," which are wines made of Tuscany's traditional grape Sangiovese, blended with Cabernet Sauvignon for increased structure and elegance. There are now a few "Super Piedmonts," made of Nebbiolo and Cabernet, and Ranchero could be considered a "New World Super Piedmont." Grapes grown in Guadalupe Valley, Baja California, wine made in Escondido.

"San Luis Rey" (Nebbiolo, Garnacha, Barbera, Malbec & Syrah)
Medium bodied red blend with deep flavor. Our driest wine! American oaked for 12 months. Nebbiolo and Barbera are Italian, Grenache and Syrah are Rhones, and Malbec is a Bordeaux variety that has found success in Argentina. This is truly a world beat orchestra! Grapes grown in Guadalupe Valley, Baja California, wine made in Escondido.

Coronado Port (Zinfandel)
Sweet, thick and rich - very good dessert wine, or to sip while enjoying a fine cigar! American oaked for 15 months. Port is made by adding wine distillate/brandy to partially fermented wine. The alcohol halts yeast fermentation, leaving a high sugar content in the wine, yet allowing infusion of fruits and tannins from the grapes. Oak aging rounds and softens this luxurious mix. Zinfandel grown in Rancho Cucamonga, California, wine made in Escondido. If you haven't tried port, here is a great website that will make you want to!
