Rowland Cellars

Rowland Cellars In 1991, Gerry and Linda Rowland reintroduced the Ramspeck label, more than 450 years after the Ramspeck family's first release in 1537, in Europe. The Rowland label was released in 1995 followed by the Cenay label in 1997. Rowland firmly believes that great wine begins on the vine thus he manages the vineyards so the fruit will reflect its unique soil and microclimate. As winemaker his goal is to enhance the rich, individual character of his grapes in a hand-crafted style using a combination of modern and centuries-old techniques. 7000 cases of wine (Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah) are produced annually, drawn from the appellations of Napa Valley, California, USA and Central Otago, South Island of New Zealand. The Napa Valley fruit comes from 20 acres of primarily mountainside vineyards in the" Red Triangle " of Atlas Peak, Stags Leap and Coombsville. The New Zealand fruit come from the worlds coolest and most southern viticultural region of Central Otago.

  Jill's Vineyard Pinot Noir
At last! ...Our new 8 ton fermentation tanks arrived allowing us to have better control over the heating and cooling of our fermentation program. Heat is essential and directly effects the extraction from the fruit of 'aroma types', color, stability of the color, body and density of the wine. Control of all of these components are quite critical to the making of a good Pinot Noir. As the above qualities all have differing optimal temperatures, a range of 50 to 90 deg. F, the ability to heat and cool at any point allows us to dial in exactly what we want of each character without over extracting tannin, bitter or astringent compounds.
  Red Triangle Cabernet Sauvignon
The intriguing array of blackberry fruits, fresh spices and deep color of this wine can be attributed to the naked-looking fruit that you would have observed at harvest. Naked-looking because the leaves above, opposite and below the cluster have been removed. When looking down the vine row, this presented the magnificent sight of a solid line of black, ripe grapes.
  Red Triangle Syrah
The Red Triangle vineyard Syrah exhibits intense aromas of freshly cracked pepper, ripe plump plum with a dusting of earth tones for intrigue-a real treat for those who appreciate a big, full-bodied red. The palate is concentrated yet still soft, round, generous and rich ΒΌ all the hallmarks of a Northern Rhone and of a great Syrah!
