Greenbank Cellars

Greenbank Cellars We are a small Northwest winery located on Whidbey Island, WA. We are situated in a renovated turn-of-the-century, monitor-style barn. Inside is a beautiful antique back-bar, and stone floor. Our barn can be seen on all of our wine labels. Located on the same property, Greenbank Gallery exhibits works by artist Betty Rayle including cards, watercolors and monotypes. See the Gallery link for some examples of Betty's work. All of our wines are 100% varietals. Our White Wines are made in the Alsatian style, meaning dry, fresh, crisp, citric flavors, and no oak. Our red wines are two year barrel-aged in French and Hungarian oak, and are unfiltered. Please check the wines link for more information on our current wines. Our hours are: 11:00 to 5:00 Thursday through Monday or call for an appointment.

  2003 Syrah
two year barrel aged Estate Bottled Wines
  2004 Madeline Sylvaner
Delicate and very light, this Alsatian style wine has a slight peppermint finish, and goes well with light sauces. Very refreshing!
  Cabernet Franc
A light red wine with the predominant taste of dark cherry. This wine is soft and smooth with earthy overtones; made with 100% Cabernet Franc grapes.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
A younger cabernet, a little more tannic, and a little lighter than the 1999. It should age very well.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
A complex, smooth cabernet with tastes of Blackberry and cherry, and a spicy, chocolate finish. Outstanding now, and it will only improve with age. Excellent with red meats.
  Chenin Blanc
This Alsatian style wine has a green apple, pear taste, and a lime finish. What to do with it: Enjoy with seafoods, cheeses and salads.
  Loganberry
A semi-dry berry wine, terrific with poultry. Loganberries were hybridized in the early 1880's by crossing blackberry and red raspberry. The hybrid quickly became popular as a pie, preserve and wine berry. Greenbank was once the site of the worlds' largest Loganberry farm, but today, Loganberries are grown almost exclusively in the Williamette Valley of Oregon. This wine has been crafted to maintain the natural rich, intense garnet color, powerful aroma and sweet tart taste of the loganberry. What to do with it: 1. Serve as an afternoon refresher. 2. As a dinner wine, it is especially complementary to pork, turkey, wild fowl, and chicken. 3. As a dessert wine, chocolate is a wonderful complement. 5. On a winter's night, serve a hot-mulled wine.
  Madeline Angevine
A lighter Alsatian stlye wine, it is excellent with seafood and cheese. To be released Spring of 2005. Very limited quantities.
  Riesling
Riesling is Germany's most highly respected grape variety. It has a floral aroma reminiscent of roses. We are producing a dry riesling, void of any oak in order to preserve the natural flovor of the grape. Our Alsatian style Riesling is made the same way as our Sauvignon Blanc and results in a softer, smoother, wine, with fewer citric overtones and a more floral aroma and taste. What to do with it: Riesling compliments chicken, seafood, fresh fruit and mild cheeses. Serve chilled.
  Sangiovese
The most important grape of Tuscany and Chianti in Italy, this is a lighter bodied wine with the tastes of cherry and a spicy, slightly peppery finish. Very versatile, and especially good with Italian foods.
  Sangiovese 2002
The most important grape of Tuscany and Chianti in Italy, this is a lighter bodied wine with the tastes of cherry and a spicy, slightly peppery finish. Very versatile, and especially good with Italian foods.
  Sauvignon Blanc
Our Alsatian style Sauvignon Blanc is bright, crisp, edgy, with a clean finish. It has the predominant taste of green apple and grapefruit. A very refreshing wine. What to do with it: Alsatian wines are very food friendly, especially with seafoods, cheeses and salads.
