Vincent Arroyo Winery

Vincent Arroyo Winery Walking into the Vincent Arroyo Winery, one gets the sense that it has been here forever. Is it just the comfortable atmosphere of a big barn full of oak wine barrels that lends to the sense of permanence? Vincent Arroyo, himself, may feel like he has been here forever, as well. He left behind a career as a mechanical engineer in the Silicon Valley during the early 70's and headed to Calistoga, at the northern tip of the Napa Valley. He felt much more at home close to the land, being able to see and taste the fruits of his labors. The purchase of the 23 acres of the Greenwood Ranch property in 1974 began the evolution of what is seen today, 85 acres cultivating 9 different wine grape varietals. Vince has always been a farmer at heart, taking care of the land to produce the best that it can. He began to transform the Greenwood Ranch by ripping out existing prune trees and unhealthy vines and planting new vineyards. For many years, he did it all alone, the tractor work, cellar work and a one-man sales force. Originally he made just a few hundred cases of his favorites, Petite Sirah and Cabernet, selling the majority of the grape tonnage to other Napa wineries. Today, while he produces over 6,000 cases of seven different varietals, he still sells some grape tons to other wineries. Vince now has help in the winery and vineyards, but he still does quite a bit of work himself. You will catch him on the tractor or down with the barrels, always wanting to have a hand in what goes on around the winery that he grew. In fact, it is hard to keep him away from the barrels, with a wine thief in hand, when inquisitive customers stop by for a sample!

  “NAMELESS”
2002 “Nameless” is the newest addition to the Vincent Arroyo Winery line-up of wonderful wines. We have bottle-aged this wine for 8 months, allowing the flavors in the blend to integrate, and now “Nameless” is ready to be enjoyed! Deep garnet color, aged in just over 50% new oak barrels (mostly French), this wine has a developed structure and delicious flavors of sweet Queen Anne Cherries, red currants, freshly grated nutmeg, and hints of dried meat. The finish is smooth with a kick of tannins to remind us of its’ Napa Valley roots.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon is big on fruit and soft on tannins. The red currants balanced with the other red fruit flavors fill your mouth and beg for a pairing of a hearty meal!! The firm acid balances nicely with the predominant French Oak developing into an elegant wine.
  Chardonnay
  Mélange Reserve
This year’s Mélange Reserve is bursting with ripe strawberries — first when you smell it and then when you taste it. Delicate, lingering hints of nutmeg lend a bit of complexity to this wine which is intended to be an “anytime wine.” Its so good, it will probably become your “all the time” wine!
  Merlot
Big and bold with good acid balance, this full-bodied Merlot is delicious with many meals (or by the glass!).
  Petite Sirah
