Flowers Vineyard & Winery

Flowers Vineyard & Winery At Flowers Vineyard & Winery, our goal as wine growers is to bring forth in bottle the uniqueness of vines planted to ancient marine and volcanic soils bathed in coastal mountain sun and tempered with cool ocean breezes. Our task as winemakers is to listen to the grapes and give them what they need: gentle handling, the use of age-old Burgundian techniques and attention to detail. Our hope as fellow wine lovers is that you will enjoy tasting our wines as much as we enjoy creating them.

The wine's flavors are concentrated and enticing with blackberry and plum. The finish is smooth and round with an unmistakable veil of fruity flavor and rich mouth feel which lingers. Drink now or cellar for 2-3 years.
  Keefer Ranch Pinot noir

Flavors of raspberry, caramel and plums are present upon tasting. This wine is robust on the mid-palate, with a lively acidity. The finish is round and rich with a structure of tannins asserting a stoic and commanding aftertaste. Cellar for 1 year upon release or age for 2-3 years.
  Keefer Ranch Pinot noir
A deep, dark color is the first striking quality of this wine. The nose is complex and hard to pin down at this young age. Fruit and spice notes are nicely interwoven with no single character dominating. Aromas and flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove are the foil for a bright fruit core of pie cherry and black raspberry. The acidity is excellent, giving the wine a "lightness on its feet" that belies its concentration and structure. The overall palate impression is one balance, from entry, into mid-palate, and through the long extended finish. We expect this wine to begin drinking at its best in the fall of 2004 and to reward further aging of up to 5 years
  Keefer Ranch Pinot noir
This wine immediately commands your attention with its beautiful garnet hue. The youthful nose is a bit "tight" at first yielding its complex mélange of dark fruit, spice, bacon fat, and subtle herbal notes forthright after a bit of air. The palate displays firm acidity, yet moderate tannins, giving the overall impression of a more delicate and "classically" structured Pinot Noir than its predecessor. This wine is sourced from four different clonal blocks and is notable, once more, for its balance - where no one component dominates. We had more fruit, and thus wine, to work with this year, which allowed us to do a very rigorous barrel selection for what was ultimately included in this final blend. Enjoyable upon release, especially with food, this wine should provide its best drinking over the next two years. We are excited to see several similarities between our first two vintages of this Pinot noir, even though the growing seasons were so different. The sign of true terroir!
  MOON Select Pinot noir
Brilliant garnet color. Rich and elegant with aromas & flavors of plum, blackberry and cassis with hints of flint, mineral, orange peel and fennel. Delicate tannins provide a velvety finish. Enjoy through 2007.
  Perennial
Initial fruit aromas of black currant, blood orange and plum are at the core of this wine. Hints of sandalwood, leather and dried herbs emphasize the complexity that the 2003 Perennial has to offer. Flavors of caramel and plum are punctuated by tannins and a crisp acidity. It finishes long rich on the palate. Delicious now.
  Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
Vibrant aromas of lime, lemon verbena, and hints of vanilla bean are followed by complex undertones of honey, cedar, and flint. The flavors are rich and spreading across the palate with a velvety texture and lively acidity. A well-balanced wine with flavors of apples, pears and minerals. Showing well now and will continue to gain complexity for 1-3 years.
  Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
This is a particularly complex and layered vintage of our Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. A rich, golden hue, with just a touch of green, leads into aromas of pain grille, lemon zest, vanilla custard, and toasted almonds. Our signature floral character is still there, yet is balanced this year by an increased intensity of other components. On the palate there is a cascade of flavors from citrus, to green apple and pear, to sur lies yeastiness, to a lingering and subtle minerality. The texture is round and viscous with a bracing acidity that refreshes and invites another sip. While this wine will remain ready to enjoy upon release, it will also reward those who have the will power and patience to lay some down. It should drink well from the summer of 2004 through at least the summer of 2006, and we suspect even for 1-2 years after that. Serve "lightly" chilled.
  Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
This vintage of our Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is immediately captivating in its aromatics. All the regular "players" are here including an abundance of citrus (lemon, orange, grapefruit), tart green apple, and our distinct floral signature. Supporting cast members include fresh brioche, subtle wet-stone minerality, and an intriguing caramelized crème brulee character. The palate is creamy and balanced from entry through finish with crisp acidity and a lingering aftertaste of brioche and mineral. A new twist this year was that about 15% of the blend was tank fermented and aged sur lies in a "Chablis-esque" fashion. This was done with the intention of adding another layer of complexity to the blend and of more precisely controlling the final oak level in the finished wine. We believe the results were successful and have contributed towards yielding an even more seamless quality to this vintage. This wine is always enjoyable immediately upon release and is best served lightly chilled. We feel cellaring of up to two years will be rewarded with increased complexity, but beyond this is really unnecessary.
  Sonoma Coast Pinot noir
Dark and stone fruit aromas reminiscent of black cherries, plums, and red currants are followed by whiffs of leather, tobacco and herbs. The complexity of aromas yield notes of mineral, sandalwood and white pepper as well. This wine possesses a confident acidity upon entry with flavors of spice and tea. The soft tannins round the mid-palate with minerals and full-flavored Pinot noir character. Enjoy now or cellar up to 3 years.
  Sonoma Coast Pinot noir
What is distinctive about this vintage is the aromatic intensity and expression of varietal and regional character. It could not possibly be anything but Pinot Noir from a cool coastal climate. The aromas really do leap forth with notes of ripe red and dark fruits such as cherry, strawberry jam, and plum all vying for attention. The oak and fruit are well matched with just enough toast and smoke from the barrels to accent our subtle coastal spice. Flavors are fresh and lingering with just a touch of orange rind in the finish. Crisp acid and very fine tannins contribute structure and depth without heaviness. We feel that this vintage will continue to improve from its release in the spring of 2004 through at least 2007.
  Sonoma Coast Pinot noir
The aromas of this wine are, again, distinctly forward and multilayered. The clean brightness of fruit is what sets this vintage apart. A predominance of "red fruits" is accented by a touch of exotic East Indian spice and a "kiss" of well-seasoned French oak. The texture is plush and round with the underlying structure and acidity not becoming apparent until the late palate and finish. This Pinot was a joy to blend with it never ceasing to amaze us how the sum can be so much greater than the parts. And there were several parts! Five key vineyards and five minor ones were the sources for the blend this year; with two of the key vineyards being Camp Meeting Ridge and our new ranch off Fort Ross Road. The purity of this wine is what is so striking and reflects the preciseness and delineation of fruit that was a common denominator in many of the Pinot lots this vintage. Drinking surprisingly well for such a young wine, I believe this vintage will continue to evolve and improve over the next 3 years.
