Cherry Point Vineyard

Cherry Point Vineyard Cherry point was purchased in 2003 by the Cowichan Tribes making it the second winery owned by First Nations. Cherry Point Vineyards was established in 1990, and was licensed as a farm winery in 1994. Situated on a gravelly glacial deposit in the Cowichan valley, our terroir has been compared to the best of the Alsace and Chablis locations. Owners Wayne and Helena Ulrich have a unique picturesque spot for their vineyard near Cobble Hill. The winery has produced a 2000 Reserve Agria. Agria is an early ripening red grape that has been developed on the Island. A number of government research projects are carried out at Cherry Point to find the best grapes for the Island.

  Agria/Pinot Noir
The delicate taste and velvety texture of our Pinot Noir is complemented by the robust flavour of Agria, a unique variety from Hungary. Agria projects a rich berry bouquet with muscat and lavender notes. Aging in old oak barrels enhances the floral complexity.
  Blackberry Port
This rich, sweet wine is produced from the luscious blackberries that abound in the estuary of the Cowichan River. This is an intense fruit wine, which reflects the warmth of the Cowichan summer. Enjoy it on its own or with a rich dessert.
  Coastal Red
A delicious blend of Pinot Noir, Merlot and an assortment of European grape varietals from our vineyard. Garnet red in colour with aromas of orange blossom, wild blackberry and spice. Juicy dark cherry fruit and black current flavour notes with a kiss of oak are followed by a peppery, berry finish. A light bodied red, nicely balanced with lots of fruit and just enough acidity, make this a very versatile and food friendly wine, ideal while picnicking al fresco, barbequing or just sipping on the patio.
  Coastal White
A delightful blend of Kerner, Müller Thurgau and other white varietals from our vineyard. This vintage produced intense fruit flavours, naturally balanced with good acidity. This Germanic style wine has a light straw hue and aromas of honeysuckle and fresh citrus fruit. Pear, orange and ripe peach flavour notes are followed by a long crisp, honeyed finish. Ideal for summer sipping or as an aperitif, superb with seafood, poultry and Asian dishes.
  Cuvee de Pinot
This is a blend of grapes of the Pinot family: Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Auxerrois. The spicy aroma and citrus/melon taste produces an excellent pairing with seafood and poultry.

  Gewurztraminer
Pale straw in colour, Cherry Point Vineyards 2005 Gewurztraminer is light bodied, stylish and aromatic wine with delicate floral and fruit bouquet. Lots of orchard ripe peach and sweet lychee nut fruit flavours are nicely balanced with good acidity, followed by a fine spicy, medium dry finish.
  Merlot
This classic varietal wine was made from Merlot grapes grown by carefully chosen producers in the Similkameen Valley in British Columbia. This wine has a dominant aroma of plums, with hints of chocolate and leather. Serve it with lamb chops or wild game.
  Ortega
The Ortega grape variety flourishes on Vancouver Island, where it produces a complex wine with a bounty of character. This aromatic dry white wine is a light gold in colour with elegant citrus spicy aromas. The full mouth feel is filled with flavour notes of pineapple, apricot, mango fruit and spice, followed by a lingering honey and lemon finish.
  Pinot Blanc
The aroma is peachy and tropical. Citrus fruits balance a generous palate of melon, which takes this wine to a crisp clean finish. We consider Pinot Blanc to be a versatile food wine, providing an excellent complement for all seafood and poultry dishes.
  Pinot Gris
Pale yellow with a lovely citrus fruit and spicy bouquet, juicy pineapple, mandarin orange and pink grapefruit flavor notes on the palate, with a long honeyed finish. Delightful with poached salmon and white sauce, pasta primavera and crisp shavings of Parmigiano Reggiano from Italy.
  Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is most famous as the variety grown in Burgundy. Contrary to popular legend, it is a delight to grow at Cherry Point, producing an elegant wine with intense fruit flavour. This wine has a dominant aroma of black cherries, with hints of blackberry and pepper. Serve it with lamb chops or baked B.C. salmon.
