Forchini Vineyards and Winery

Forchini Vineyards and Winery Jim and Anita Forchini first came to the Russian River valley in 1971 with a young family and a desire to live in the country. Jim was working as a mechanical engineer and had developed an interest in grape growing after making wine with friends. They purchased a ranch with an older vineyard and became quickly immersed in the renaissance of the Sonoma County wine industry. After purchasing additional property in 1973, Jim was at a crossroad. Torn between the demands of corporate life and his interests in viticulture Jim made a career change in 1976 and became a full time winegrower. In 1996 they fulfilled a dream to build a small family winery. Jim credits his engineering background as an invaluable asset in the development and operation of his vineyards and winery. The winery produces 3000 cases a year of estate wines. 25% of their total vineyard production is used for their wines, the balance is sold to prominent local wineries. Jim believes winemaking begins in the vineyard and that the chemistry of the vineyard, which he defines as vineyard design and management decisions plus terroir, influences the quality of the wines....not just the terroir alone. He also believes in co-fermenting the grape varietal blend together for added complexity rather than blending completed wines after fermentation. The winery has complete in-house production capability, including bottling, with 22000 gal. storage capacity. Generally open on weekends for public tasting or mid-week by appointment. Picnic facilities and tours by arrangement. Located in the heart of Dry Creek Valley with panoramic views of their vineyards and the Dry Creek landscape from their hilltop Tuscan styled tasting room and gardens.

Products

  Chardonnay, Russian River Valley
Produced from our Russian River Terrace Vineyard. This white northern Burgundy style wine is rich with tropical fruit, flavors of pineapple, apple, pear, and fig and has huge perfumed bouquet of honeysuckle and orchid. Unlike barrel fermented Chard with malolactic fermentation this wine was cold fermented in stainless and the malic acid preserved for a crisp, clean mid-palate finish without the buttery mouthfeel from ML. Aged 4 months in neutral French oak such that oak extracts would not overpower the fruitfulness of the wine. Serve with fancy cheese, seafood, and poultry. Close your eyes, sip this wine, and dream you are in Chablis France.
  "Papa Nonno" Tuscan Red
A unique blend of red varietal grapes fermented together with a small amount of white to produce a dry full bodied wine in a style similar to the Chianti wines of Tuscany. The backbone of the wine is 74% Zinfandel with 12% Carignane, 5% Cabernet and 9% mixed white. With the exception of the Cabernet, the vines used in this production are 50-90 years old. The co-fermentations provides a certain complexity not normally obtained by post fermentation blending. Aged 19 months in oak. Bright fruit flavors of berry, plum and cherry combines with moderate tannin and acidity for a balanced mouthfeel. A delicious wine, easy to drink that pairs well with a variety of foods.
  BeauSierra, Bordeaux Style Red Wine
BeauSierra is a blend of 4 estate grapes, Cabernet being the main component. Bold structure, deep color and flavors of mixed berry and spice. A French style table wine that is perfect for everyday meals. Pairs well with a variety of foods.
  Cabernet Sauvignon Dry Creek Valley
Dry Creek Valley has excellent soils and climate for the production of Cabernet Sauvignon wine. Our elevated eastern bench location gives us added advantage to grow fantastic Cabernet. Western afternoon sun carries late into the vineyard evening hours. Our thrifty soils yield moderate canopies that allows abundant sun into the fruit zone resulting in clean fruit, intense berry color and abounding flavors. Maximum fruit ripeness is consistently attained along with mature tannin. Our Cabs are consistent heavy medal winners with huge structure and intense dark garnet color. Earthy aromas, rich mouthfeel, flavors of blueberry, cherry, anise, cassis with subtle hints of chocolate, coffee and toast make this noble wine truly spectacular. Bold in alcohol yet well balanced without heat. Aged 22 months in 34% new oak. For the hearty beefeater.
  Cabernet Sauvignon, Dry Creek Valley
A huge noble wine with great depth from our Dry Creek Bench vineyard combines a balance of tannin and intense color with great aroma, rich fruit, and spice flavors of clove, chocolate, and currant. The blend is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon with 10% co-fermented Carignane using cultured Bordeaux yeast and select malolactic bacteria. Aged 22 months in a combination of 1/3 new American and 2/3 neutral French oak barrels and polished filtered prior to bottling. Enjoy this superb wine with fine dining when the occasion calls for something very special.
  Chardonnay, Russian River Valley
Cold fermented in stainless steel and aged 4 months in neutral French oak barrels. Opens with toast and apple and a tropical note on the nose before flavors of lemon, apple, toast and creamy tropical fruit, which finishes on the front and the back of the palate. This wine is typical of the lean flinty high acid finishes from the villages of Chablis in northern Burgundy. Perfect pairing with seafood, poultry, and fancy cheese. Available for purchase only at the winery.
Papa Nonno, Tuscan-Style Red, Dry Creek Valley)
tribute wine to my grandfather Pietro Bernacchi who was called "Papa" by his daughters and "Nonno" by his grandchildren. He was from a small town near Lucca, Italy in the region of Tuscany. He came to America in 1908 with 3 brothers in search of economic opportunity while 2 brothers remained in Italy to sharecrop with their father. They were hard working individuals that shared a love for agriculture and were true agrarian stewards of the land. They were all family winemakers, had a deep respect for food and wine, and all lived long and healthy lives. Tanti Grazi Nonno for your genes and inspiration. Papa Nonno wine is a unique blend of red varietal grapes fermented together with a small amount of white grapes to produce a dry full bodied wine in a style similar to the Chianti wines of Tuscany. The backbone of the wine is 58% Zinfandel, with 27% Cabernet, 11% Carignane, and 4% mixed whites. With the exception of the Cabernet, the vines used in this production are 50-90 years old. The co-fermentation provides a complexity and color not obtained by post fermentation blending.. Aged 19 months in American oak. Bright fruit flavors of berry, plum and cherry combine with moderate tannin and acidity for a balanced mouthfeel. A delicious hearty wine that pairs well with BBQ meats, pasta and a wide variety of foods.
  Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley
An elegant 100% Pinot Noir from our 30 year old vineyard in the Russian River Valley appellation. Delicate seductive structure combines with brilliant ruby red color and fruit flavors of cherry, berry, & plum mixed with subtle spices of clove. Perfumed aromas, moderate tannin, and supple mouthfeel provide a lingering pleasant finish. Aged in 1/3 French coopered new American oak and 2/3 neutral American and French oak. Polished filtered. Serve with lighter foods, fancy cheese course, seafood, wild game and poultry. Very Burgundian in style. Earthy & complex silky suede texture. 12 months in oak.
Zinfandel, Estate Reserve, Dry Creek Valley
This is a spicy and jammy Zin with black cherry on the nose introducing sweet black cherry, black raspberry, pepper and smoky oak flavors laced with firm and some dry tannin. Medium long and medium broad finish. Made from the same old vines as our ‘01 Zin but with bolder alcohol and more extracted flavors due to riper fruit.
  Zinfandel,. Dry Creek Valley
This wine is made from the same 90 year old dry farmed vines as the "Papa Nonno " . The difference is the fruit was allowed to develop flavors of greater intensity by waiting for higher sugar levels and eliminating the mixed white grapes. This Zin is classic Dry Creek with bright fruit flavors of briary blackberry, raspberry, and boysenberry combined with spice and moderate oak. Wonderfully balanced , supple and not overly extracted. Pairs well with lamb, braised meat sauced entries, pasta and other fancy haut cuisine.
