McKenzie-Mueller Vineyards & Winery

McKenzie-Mueller Vineyards & Winery McKenzie-Mueller Vineyards and Winery was born in the late 1980's, when the Mueller family (Bob Mueller and Karen McKenzie-Mueller) moved from the northern Napa Valley to the Carneros region. Both of us grew up in the Napa Valley, where we had extensive winery experience before venturing out on our own with McKenzie-Mueller. We wasted no time in planting our fifty acres on Las Amigas Road and building the small white barn that has been home to all our winemaking activities through the years. We produced our first vintage, a Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Pinot Noir, in 1990. Since then we've added Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Pinot Grigio to our repertoire of wines. We pride ourselves on running a true family operation; in fact, every one of our five children--Kerry, Lissa, Erin, Julius, and Samantha--has contributed to our winery's success. Also essential to our success are the numerous other family members who have devoted many hours to McKenzie-Mueller events.

  1998 Cabernet Franc
Finally, the variety you have been waiting for. An extremely aromatic wine, with full yet soft tannins. Hints of tobacco and chocolate. Earthy and pleasantly rugged. Perfect for pasta dishes with heavy tomato based sauces or cheese sauces. Don't miss out!
  1998 Cabernet Sauvignon
Spicy, well-rounded, earthy and full of vanilla--or to put it more scientifically, really yummy! 1997 was our first vintage of this variety and it went fast! This one is equally good, if not better, so you might want to grab a bottle of this one before it's all gone. Gold award in 2002 San Francisco Chronicle Competition!
  1998 Merlot
Who's afraid of 1998? Forget the press--this wine is fantastic! Smooth and tasty, with lots of fruit and plenty of elegance. You won't be disappointed. Pair it with milk chocolate, mild chesses, and anything else your little heart desires. One of the wine-maker's favorites! Bronze award in 2002 San Francisco Wine Chronicle Competition!
  1999 Cabernet Franc
If you are a Cabernet Franc fan, you must have this wine. This vintage is VERY aromatic. Great structure, perfectly well rounded, extremely rich. A little spicy on the finish. It's good drinking right now, but full of aging potential--if you can manage to hang on to it! Erin's favorite, this wine goes well with ribs, potato salad, and dark chocolate. 87 points ‘Wine & Spirits’ June, 2002
  1999 Cabernet Sauvignon
Our new release! The perfect holiday wine. Smooth, perfectly structured. You just can't go wrong with this wine. One happy customer describes our Cabernet Sauvignon as "liquid velvet." Check it out!
  1999 Merlot
Ah, the 1999 Merlot. This wine is a beauty! Rich, as McKenzie-Mueller Merlots always are, it has a spicy, cherry nose that easily glides into a blueberry, blackpepper palate. The finish is long and finely textured. This wine is heaven with a big, juicy steak and green vegetables in butter on the side. Rated a 93 in ‘Wine & Spirits,’ June 2002 and listed as one of the Top 10 MERLOTS over the last twelve months.
  1999 Pinot Noir
You CAN'T miss this wine. A little fuller and slightly richer than the 1998, it has lots of cherry and earthiness. Very balanced. Personally, I would say this wine is the "middle ground" between a full-bodied 1997 and a lighter 1998. Perfect for everyone. You might want to snatch a few bottles before the Mueller family drinks it all--we adore this wine! It's perfect with gnocchi in a cheese sauce (such as fontina), lamb with garlic mashed potatoes, or salmon in a sweet corn sauce.
  Carneros Cuvee Rosé
100% Pinot Noir, 100% Dry, 100% Pink. We only made 80 cases! Perfect for BBQ's, picnics, warm summer nights and holiday meals.
  Los Carneros Malbec
Close your eyes, open a bottle of our 2002 Malbec, and find yourself on a lush and exotic retreat. From the blueberry, cinnamon and allspice, guava, plum and rose petal aroma to the rich, tropical taste with soft tannins, balanced acidity, and a long finish, this velvety wine will transport you! 150 cases produced. Gold medal winner at the 2005 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
  Los Carneros Merlot
Like an aged steak, our Merlot is rich, big and interesting. The nose is spice, toasted oak and blackberry with black pepper undertones. The taste is raspberries and chocolate, the mouthfeel is soft with rounded tannins, and the finish is full and broad. 200 cases produced.
  Los Carneros Pinot Grigio
This wine is a summer fruit basket of aromas! White nectarine, passion fruit, honeydew melon and lavender dance in your mouth. Hints of mineral opening lead to a smooth lingering finish. While this wine is enjoyable year round, it’s particularly refreshing on warm spring days and hot summer nights. McKenzie-Mueller Pinot Grigio is best served chilled. (53-55 degrees) 570 cases produced. Silver medal winner at the 2005 West Coast Wine Competition and the 2005 Los Angeles County Fair Wine Competition.
  Los Carneros Pinot Noir
From the much-celebrated 2001 vintage, our Los Carneros Pinot Noir is a real treat for Pinot lovers. Right off the bat it delights the eyes with its ruby-red color; it tantalizes the nose with its bright cherry, vanilla and allspice aromas; it demands attention from the mouth with its smoky, meaty long-lasting finish and soft tannins.
  Los Carneros Pinot Noir Reserve
Another gift from 2001: a true reserve! When two vineyard blocks showed exceptionally well in an already-phenomenal year, we had no choice but to make our first reserve Pinot Noir. The result is an earthy nose that will open with aeration into raspberry, cherry, spice and tobacco. This rich wine fills your mouth with a lingering dark chocolate and cherry finish. We don't make a reserve Pinot Noir every year, so raise a glass to toast 2001. 220 cases produced. Silver medal winner at the 2005 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, 2005 International Eastern Wine Competition, 2005 Grand Harvest Awards Wine Competition and the 2005 California State Fair Wine Competition.
  McKenzie Clan Rosé
For the serious Rosé wine drinker: 100% Dry, 100% Pink 65 cases produced. 63% Cabernet Franc, 27% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon
  Napa Valley Cabernet Franc
The earthiness of wild blackberries and sun-warmed raspberries greet your nose. And for your palate, this deeply colored Cabernet Franc delivers a blend of currants and blackberries with a hint of cinnamon. This wine has a dry, pleasantly strong finish. The 2001 while ready to drink now, will improve with several years of aging. 320 cases produced. Best of Class and Gold medal winner at the 2005 West Coast Wine Competition and Gold medal winner at the 2005 International Eastern Wine Competition and 2005 West Coast Wine Competition
  Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
This is a rich, mouth-filling wine with loads of fruit, soft tannins and a long smooth finish. It is deep red to purple in color with aromas of blackberries, ripe plums, and red currants. In the mouth, the wine has a supple richness with hints of vanilla and mocha. The 2001 vintage was an exceptional year in the Napa Valley and McKenzie-Mueller’s Cabernet Sauvignon perfectly reflects the promise and expectations of that year. 890 cases produced. Silver medal winner at the 2005 San Diego International Wine Competition, 2005 Monterey Wine Competition, 2005 Dallas Morning News Wine Competition, 2005 Grand Harvest Awards Wine Competition and the 2005 California State Fair Wine Competition.
