2001 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

2001 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Details
Price: $25.00 per bottle

Description: The 2001 vintage is an exceptional release from Gneiss Winery. The 2001 vintage far exceeded the 1999 vintage due to meticulous vineyard practices and continually reducing the fruit yield intensify the flavor and color. The broad spectrum of flavors is highlighted with dark fruit, berry and tobacco. The enticing aromas of red fruit, toast and spice with a texture of rich, silky tannins complete this expressive wine. Gneiss Winery produces limited quantities of handcrafted Napa Valley wines and specializes in Cabernet Sauvignon. The harvesting and blending of fruit from carefully selected vineyards in Stags Leap, St. Helena and Napa create a balanced wine. The artisan winemaking techniques include the gentle treatment of the fruit in small bin fermentation lots, three-daily hand punch down of caps, and modest bladder pressing. Additionally, depth and complexity are added through newer rack and return tank techniques. The 2001 vintage was aged in 90% French oak and 10% American oak from the highest quality cooperage.

Varietal Definition
Cabernet Sauvignon:
Cabernet Sauvignon is the most widely planted and significant among the five dominant varieties in France’s Bordeaux region, as well as the most successful red wine produced in California. Though it was thought to be an ancient variety, recent genetic studies at U.C. Davis have determined that Cabernet Sauvignon is actually the hybrid offspring of Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon berries are small with black, thick and very tough skin. This toughness makes the grapes fairly resistant to disease and spoilage and able to withstand some autumn rains with little or no damage. It is a mid to late season ripener. These growth characteristics, along with its flavor appeal have made Cabernet Sauvignon one of the most popular red wine varieties worldwide.
