2001 Reynolds Family Winery Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

2001 Reynolds Family Winery Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Details
Price: $45.00 per bottle

Description: The 2001 vintage is unquestionably the best release from Reynolds Family Winery. A vintage compared to the coveted 1994 & 1997 vintages, the 2001 harvest benefited from a long dry season of warm days and cool nights, giving the fruit the perfect balance of energy and rest. The conditions of the growing season led to beautifully ripe fruit with mature, developed tannins. Our low yield vineyard practices, 2 1/2 tons per acre, continually ensure the arrival of beautifully dark fruit with deep intense flavors. The Estate Select Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from grapes grown exclusively on the 10 acre estate vineyard. The blend of two Bordeaux Cabernet clones 337 and 4 create exceptional complexity. The blend of Cabernet clones 337 & 4, with small additions of the Weimer clone and Cab Franc clone 5, exhibits intense color and structure while maintaining deep, dark fruit aromas such as black currant, tobacco and spice. The artisan winemaking techniques include tank fermentation with rack and return in combination with the gentle treatment of the fruit inherent to small bin fermentation, three daily hand punch-down of caps and modest bladder pressing. The broad spectrum of flavors is highlighted by blackberry, cassis, cherry, cocoa, oak and tobacco. The wine is expressive, with a complex and rich middle palate, firm velvety tannins lead to a lengthy soft and supple finish.

Varietal Definition
Cabernet Sauvignon:
Cabernet Sauvignon is the most widely planted and significant among the five dominant varieties in France’s Bordeaux region, as well as the most successful red wine produced in California. Though it was thought to be an ancient variety, recent genetic studies at U.C. Davis have determined that Cabernet Sauvignon is actually the hybrid offspring of Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon berries are small with black, thick and very tough skin. This toughness makes the grapes fairly resistant to disease and spoilage and able to withstand some autumn rains with little or no damage. It is a mid to late season ripener. These growth characteristics, along with its flavor appeal have made Cabernet Sauvignon one of the most popular red wine varieties worldwide.
