Sauvignon Blanc, Fig Tree Vineyard

Sauvignon Blanc, Fig Tree Vineyard Wine Details
Price: $16.00 per bottle

Description: Quivira’s Fig Tree Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc represents a true taste of place. Our estate vineyard, now Biodynamically® certified, is located between Quivira’s two waterways Dry Creek and Wine Creek and takes its name from a majestic old mission fig tree that stands amongst the Sauvignon Blanc vines. The soil has an extensive gravel layer, due to its proximity to the creeks, that produces a well-drained site yielding grapes with a uniquely Quivira flavor profile. A drop of sunshine in a glass, our vintage continues the Quivira tradition of added Semillon and French oak aging. Bright and vibrant, with aromas of grapefruit, melon, and citrus. The subtle lime minerality, exemplified in the cool riverbed stones along Wine Creek, adds a sparkling crispness to the abundant fruit flavors, while the Musqué clone (2%) contributes a touch of pineapple. A wonderfully complex yet totally quaffable wine.

Varietal Definition
Sauvignon Blanc:
Sauvignon Blanc is widely grown in California — at over 15,000 acres, it’s now the third most planted variety — and often assumes the moniker ‘Fume Blanc’. This popular synonym, credited to Napa’s Robert Mondavi, derives from the grape’s historic home of Pouilly in France’s Upper Loire Valley, where Sauvignon Blanc is the dominant varietal and goes locally by the name of ‘Blanc Fumé’. When treated with respect and afforded suitable growing conditions, Sauvignon Blanc is one of the wine world’s darlings. Steely, racy acidity, green, gooseberry fruit, asparagus and a grassy, herbaceous character characterize dry wines made from this grape.
Mission:
Earliest grape planted in 17th century in what is now the state of California. Thought to have arrived in the America's by Spanish conquistadores importation. Known to be identical with the Pais grape widely grown in Chile and thought to originate from the Monica grape of Spain and Sardinia.
