2001 Syrah

2001 Syrah Wine Details
Price: $28.00 per bottle

Description: This wine encompasses all of the primitive joys of dark chocolate & purple violets, dense & imperially rich, you will want to have the entirety of a nicely fatted & roasted lamb at hand, or if you are dieting, then the smaller bulk of a suckling pig skewered & rotisseried to crisp perfection will serve. Do as the Aztec kings did before the Spanish came & messed things up: point at the choice morsel you desire, & surely someone will fetch you up a nice haunch or rib to gnaw upon, all the while keeping your cup filled with theSyrah’s intriguing scent of chocolate & violets. You may wish to wear a smoothly polished piece of obsidian in your navel to complete the effect. Grapes: from the Halter Vineyard just down the road at the junction of Vineyard Drive & Adelaida Road. Aged: as with all of our wines (red & white), the Syrah was barrel fermented & held on the gross lees for a couple of years before an initial racking & blending. Ageability:we will need to wait & see. Cases produced: 206 cases were bottled April 19, 2004, after 32 months of barrel aging.

Varietal Definition
Syrah:
Syrah is the eight hundred pound gorilla of Rhone grapes! In the vineyard and the winery, Syrah is typically an easy grape to work with - healthy, early ripening, resistant to mildew and rot; suitable for winemaking in a variety of styles. The wines from Syrah are tannic without being harsh. The wines will have a taste and smell of dark blue fruit like blackberries and blackcurrant, with a strong spicy side where one can find freshly ground pepper and other spices. Syrah is famous for its part in the French blends, such as Côtes du Rhone and Châteauneuf du Pape.
