Sauvignon Blanc, Russian River Valley, 2008

Sauvignon Blanc, Russian River Valley, 2008 Wine Details
Price: $26.00 per bottle

Description: From the redwoods to the river, beautiful views are abound in the Russian River Valley and with a calmer, more laid-back atmosphere, Sauvignon Blanc grapes love it here just as much as the visitors who wish they could stay. The climate can change drastically from a sweating, early afternoon to a cool, foggy evening creating a perfect environment for Sauvignon Blanc grapes to mature early—as is their routine. This technique helps to lock in the sweet and sour citrus flavors that balance well with sweeter, tropical fruits like passion fruit that will keep your glass full while you find a spot near the fireplace. Pair our 2008 Sauvignon Blanc with an appetizer round of goat cheese crostini or herb-marinated olives alongside a scrumptious holiday feast of grilled chicken with roasted garlic cloves and lemon for an unforgettable evening.

Varietal Definition
Sauvignon Blanc:
Sauvignon Blanc is widely grown in California — at over 15,000 acres, it’s now the third most planted variety — and often assumes the moniker ‘Fume Blanc’. This popular synonym, credited to Napa’s Robert Mondavi, derives from the grape’s historic home of Pouilly in France’s Upper Loire Valley, where Sauvignon Blanc is the dominant varietal and goes locally by the name of ‘Blanc Fumé’. When treated with respect and afforded suitable growing conditions, Sauvignon Blanc is one of the wine world’s darlings. Steely, racy acidity, green, gooseberry fruit, asparagus and a grassy, herbaceous character characterize dry wines made from this grape.
