Newell Vineyard Petite Sirah - Monterey

Newell Vineyard Petite Sirah - Monterey Wine Details
Price: $35.00 per bottle

Description: Spice, cedar, anise and cassis are at the center of this beautiful Petite Sirah. The spice component seems to swing between pepper and more eastern spice fl avors and aromas. It's just hard to put your fi nger on. So, we choose instead to enjoy putting in on our palate. Once there you could not mistake this wine for anything other than Petite. It's dark purple color comes with the forward tannins you can't escape with this varietal. It is an endearingly iconoclastic wine of which we have only 48 cases.

Varietal Definition
Petite Sirah:
Petite Sirah is the same as the French variety known as Durif, a cross of Peloursin, with the true Syrah. A French nurseryman, Dr. François Durif, propagated the grape trying for resistance to powdery mildew and named it after himself, in the 1870s. Petite Sirah has long been an important blending grape, prized primarily for its deep color and fairly intense tannin. It is the variety most often chosen to blend into Zinfandel for added color, complexity, body, and to tone down the tendency of Zins toward "jammy" fruit.
