Illinois Cellars Chardonnel

Illinois Cellars Chardonnel Wine Details
Price: $5.99 per bottle

Description: A new and distinct variety of grapevine, Chardonel, from a cross of Seyval and Chardonnay, which can be distinguished by its outstanding wine combined with high productivity, and cold hardiness superior to its acclaimed parent, Chardonnay. A blend of 2005 Chardonels aged in both French and American oak as well as stainless steel with aromas and flavors, reminiscent of honeydew melon, nectarines, citrus with clean fresh acidity.

Varietal Definition
Chardonel:
Chardonel was developed in New York State, to be a late-ripening, highly-productive, cold-climate varietal. A cross of Chardonnay and Seyval Blanc, Chardonel is proving its value in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest states. Given much of the same treatment as Chardonnay, it adapts well to barrel fermention, and controlled lees contact. The result is often a full-bodied dry wine, high in alcohol and acidity, with a similar, if less pronounced character than Chardonnay.
