Syrah

Syrah Wine Details
Price: $27.00 per bottle

Description: This 2003 Syrah is composed of Reeves Ranch (Dan and Meghan Reeves' Headquarters) and Black Oak Vineyard (Reeves' second planting). A blend of the two vineyards, this wine contains the first vintage from Black Oak. This exciting new vineyard consists of three blocks of Syrah planted to four different clones. The vineyards are located in the warmer regions of the Santa Ynez Valley and both are small, boutique vineyards meticulously farmed. Kris works very closely with Felipe Hernandez, the vineyard manager, during the entire growing season to ensure the best quality fruit. As harvest time approaches, Kris monitors and tastes grapes frequently, as she believes that the ultimate ripeness is best determined by flavors rather than Brix levels.

Varietal Definition
Syrah:
Syrah is the eight hundred pound gorilla of Rhone grapes! In the vineyard and the winery, Syrah is typically an easy grape to work with - healthy, early ripening, resistant to mildew and rot; suitable for winemaking in a variety of styles. The wines from Syrah are tannic without being harsh. The wines will have a taste and smell of dark blue fruit like blackberries and blackcurrant, with a strong spicy side where one can find freshly ground pepper and other spices. Syrah is famous for its part in the French blends, such as Côtes du Rhone and Châteauneuf du Pape.
