Napa Valley Cabernet Franc

Napa Valley Cabernet Franc Wine Details
Price: $60.00 per bottle

Description: Heavy rain in early winter was followed soon after by warm weather, resulting in an early budbreak. Despite some late winter cold spells, anti-frost measures were successful, and no fruit was damaged. Normal spring temperatures resulted in blooming from the second half of May, and the favorable conditions led to a very good fruit set. Summer temperatures were normal with the exception of two heat waves in July where the mercury hit 110 to 112 degrees. These temperature spikes caused some sunburn damage, particularly to young plants. Harvest began in late August. Temperatures were moderate throughout the end of picking and no rain fell. Fruit quality was excellent.

Varietal Definition
Cabernet Franc:
Cabernet Franc is an accessible, spicy, herbal, dark blue grape variety that is often compared to Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc tends to be softer and has less tannin than Cabernet Sauvignon, although the two can be difficult to distinguish. Sometimes the French refer to Cabernets, which could mean either of the two grapes. Its typical aromas include an herbaceous and pronounced peppery nose, even in ripe fruit, and something eerily like tobacco. The Cabernet Franc ripens at an earlier stage, which gives it reason to exist in the Bordeaux area. In the Loire, where we find it a lot, it gives a clear red fresh and fruity wine.
