Lake County Sauvignon Blanc

Lake County Sauvignon Blanc Wine Details
Price: $21.00 per bottle

Description: This release of our 2005 Sauvignon Blanc marks a change in style and a new vineyard location for Goosecross. Looking for a vibrant Loire Valley style, our winemaker Geoff Gorsuch enlisted the help of Bob Pepi who is recognized industry wide as an innovator and pioneer in the production of fine Sauvignon Blanc and who readily admits a partiality to the variety. Together they located a wonderful vineyard in the hills just north of Napa Valley and went to work. They harvested the Sauvignon Blanc at slightly lower sugars than most other varieties to retain the clean, racy acidity. The wine was fermented slowly, at low temperatures to accentuate the fresh grapefruit, melon and citrus blossom.

Varietal Definition
Sauvignon Blanc:
Sauvignon Blanc is widely grown in California — at over 15,000 acres, it’s now the third most planted variety — and often assumes the moniker ‘Fume Blanc’. This popular synonym, credited to Napa’s Robert Mondavi, derives from the grape’s historic home of Pouilly in France’s Upper Loire Valley, where Sauvignon Blanc is the dominant varietal and goes locally by the name of ‘Blanc Fumé’. When treated with respect and afforded suitable growing conditions, Sauvignon Blanc is one of the wine world’s darlings. Steely, racy acidity, green, gooseberry fruit, asparagus and a grassy, herbaceous character characterize dry wines made from this grape.
