Hess Collection Sauvignon Blanc

Hess Collection Sauvignon Blanc Wine Details
Price: $18.00 per bottle

Description: The Hess Collection Small Block Series wines come from vineyards of true distinction. This Sauvignon Blanc originates from a steep hillside vineyard in Lake County and is a blend of two different Sauvignon Blanc clones. The Musqué Sauvignon Blanc clone makes up 35% of the blend while the Clone 1 Sauvignon Blanc makes up the other 65%. The grapes were fermented in stainless steel (15%) and neutral French oak barrels (85%). The Musqué clone brings tropical aromas of pineapple, ruby grapefruit, and melon. The Clone 1 adds grassy aromas typical of this variety, along with white pepper and ginger. The two clones combined add to the complexity of this Sauvignon Blanc. This is a great summer wine with ample acidity and will pair nicely with a wide variety of food including shellfish, creamy pasta dishes, teriyaki chicken, and spicy fruit salsas. Serve chilled. Total production: 540 cases all handcrafted.

Varietal Definition
Sauvignon Blanc:
Sauvignon Blanc is widely grown in California — at over 15,000 acres, it’s now the third most planted variety — and often assumes the moniker ‘Fume Blanc’. This popular synonym, credited to Napa’s Robert Mondavi, derives from the grape’s historic home of Pouilly in France’s Upper Loire Valley, where Sauvignon Blanc is the dominant varietal and goes locally by the name of ‘Blanc Fumé’. When treated with respect and afforded suitable growing conditions, Sauvignon Blanc is one of the wine world’s darlings. Steely, racy acidity, green, gooseberry fruit, asparagus and a grassy, herbaceous character characterize dry wines made from this grape.
