Reynolds Family Winery Los Carneros Pinot Noir

Reynolds Family Winery Los Carneros Pinot Noir Wine Details
Price: $45.00 per bottle

Description: The 2003 vintage was one that demanded patience, which would prove to pay off at harvest, when a late pick yielded promising fruit with well developed flavors and smooth tannins. This is the third vintage of the Los Carneros Pinot Noir that Steve has undertaken. The Corrotto Vineyard where we source the grapes has an excellent reputation for producing some of the best Pinot Noir that the Los Carneros appellation has to offer. The now 11 year old vines are a testament of successful grafting of clone 667 to St. George rootstock. The Los Carneros AVA itself is very unique in that it has a cool microclimate. Marine breezes and low moisture combined with heavy soil naturally foster the full ripening of the bright Pinot Noir flavors. Nestled between Napa and Sonoma, the 36,900 acres that make up the Carneros AVA, are high in clay composition making it excellent soil content. The Reynolds Family Winery Los Carneros Pinot Noir is crafted in a New World style and has a very up front fruit nose with aromas of fresh raspberries, berry jam and cherry. This wine has an excellent linear mid palate with rich concentrations of fresh blackberry, black cherry, cedar and spice. This is a compelling example of a complex Los Carneros Pinot Noir.

Varietal Definition
Pinot Noir:
The name is derived from the French words for ‘pine’ and ‘black’ alluding to the varietals' tightly clustered dark purple pine cone shaped bunches of fruit. Pinot Noir grapes are grown around the world, mostly in the cooler regions, but the grape is chiefly associated with the Burgundy region of France. It is widely considered to produce some of the finest wines in the world, but is a difficult variety to cultivate and transform into wine. By volume most Pinot Noir in America is grown in California with Oregon coming in second. Other regions are Washington State and New York.During 2004 and the beginning of 2005, Pinot Noir became considerably more popular amongst consumers in the United States, possibly because of the movie Sideways. Being lighter in style, it has benefited from a trend toward more restrained, less alcoholic wines. It is the delicate, subtle, complex and elegant nature of this wine that encourages growers and winemakers to cultivate this difficult grape. Robert Parker has described Pinot Noir: "When it's great, Pinot Noir produces the most complex, hedonistic, and remarkably thrilling red wine in the world."
