Napa Valley Pinot Grigio

Napa Valley Pinot Grigio Wine Details
Price: $22.00 per bottle

Description: This second vintage of Pinot Grigio is a worthy successor of the 2004 vintage. The 2005 is similar in style to the 2004, but with a little more intensity to the fruit. This Italian wine continues to be a nice compliment to our Italian red, Sangiovese, that has been so successful. This wine has wonderful undertones of ripe pear, pomelo and strawberry that integrates will with floral notes. It has nice balance and good acidity with a crisp, clean finish. Production was entirely stainless steel fermented to preserve the delicate fruit character.

Varietal Definition
Pinot Grigio/Gris:
Pinkish-white variety producing a very crisp white wine. Grown in Oregon, the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, and more and more in California, it shows promise for other cool climates. Also known as Tokay d'Alsace in France, Rulander in Germany, and Pinot Grigio in Italy.
Sangiovese:
Sanguis Jovis, the Latin origin for the varietal name, literally means “blood of Jove.” Sangiovese is one of the oldest known varietals and it is likely that ancient Etruscan winemakers cultivated it, although the first literary reference to Sangiovese was in 1722. Sangiovese is probably indigenous to Tuscany, whose most famous wine is Chianti. Chianti is a blend that currently contains a minimum of 90% Sangiovese.Sangiovese thrives in hot dry climates. Because these climatic criteria generally enhance quantity, rather than quality, it takes careful cultivation and winemaking techniques to produce really excellent wine from this grape.
