Chardonnay Isobel

Chardonnay Isobel Wine Details
Price:

Description: A pale straw color with hints of gold precedes a nose that is initially reticent with subtle aromas of flint, hazelnut and lemon zest that blossoms with aeration to present riper tropical fruits and toasted fresh bread. The palate is similarly initially taut and backward with subtle grapefruit, minerals and an attractive stony leanness. Swirling brings forth a cascade of ripe stone and tropical fruits, complemented by a creamy mouthfilling texture and a prominent steely acid structure that provides great persistence and satisfaction. This is an age-worthy Californian Chardonnay that will benefit from 5 years in a cool cellar allowing the richness of the wine to blossom as it sheds its youthful austerity.

Varietal Definition
Chardonnay:
Chardonnay is by far the most widely planted grape crop in California and dominates California’s cooler, coastal, quality wine regions. The natural varietal ‘taste and smell’ of Chardonnay is surprisingly unfamiliar to many wine drinkers, as its true character is often guised with dominating winemaking signatures. Chardonnay’s rather subdued primary fruit characteristics lean toward the crisp fruitiness of apples, pears and lemon, but the variety’s full body is capable of supporting a host of complementary characteristics, such as oak, butter and vanilla. Regardless of what is the appropriate style for Chardonnay, the varietal continues to dominate vineyard plantings in every corner of the world. Close attention to clonal selection has made this broad geographic and climactic range of Chardonnay viable in thoughtful viticultural hands.
Cascade:
This French-American hybrid typically produces light red wine with low acidity. Also known as Seibel 13053, this blue grape is employed by a few wineries in New York State. The grape's early ripening capabilities are a benefit to northeast growers, but its extreme susceptibility to virus infection will limit plantings of the vine
