Ortega Icewine Wine Details
Price: $44.98 per bottle

Description: Double Gold 2006 International Taster’s Guild. Jost Vineyard’s Double Gold Medal award winning (2006 International Tasters Guild Awards) 2004 Warner Vineyard Ortega IceWine was made from Nova Scotia grown Ortega (Vitis vinifera) grapes that had frozen on the vine and were then harvested and pressed in December 2004 (outdoor temperatures -80C to -140C). Only a few sweet drops of juice from each berry were extracted and then carefully vinted under cool conditions. This premier vintage dessert wine is full of spicy tangerine, apricot, and melon fruit waiting to be savoured.

Varietal Definition
Ortega’s winter-hardy character has allowed this grape to be successfully grown in British Columbia, and with limited success in Canada’s eastern province of Nova Scotia. This German cross of Muller Thurgau and Siegerrebe is primarily used to enhance Riesling in poor vintages in the Rheinhessen region of Germany. On its own, it can produce rich, flowery, peachy wines, with high natural sugar levels. However, its generally low acidity and its susceptibility to fungal diseases and coulure have limited its use.
