Sauvignon Blanc Chenin Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc Chenin Blanc Wine Details
Price: $18.90 per bottle

Description: This wine has a very complex, though austere, bouquet, showing aromas of perfume, soap (very typical Chenin charater), mineral, kiwi fruit, and bruised pineapple. On the palate, the wine shows these fruit characters and a grapefruit character as well, with a dry and lean texture. With this texture the wine really compliments a rich and buttery sauces in a meal. The wine finishes dry, even slightly tannic with a grapefruit zest flavour.

Varietal Definition
Sauvignon Blanc:
Sauvignon Blanc is widely grown in California — at over 15,000 acres, it’s now the third most planted variety — and often assumes the moniker ‘Fume Blanc’. This popular synonym, credited to Napa’s Robert Mondavi, derives from the grape’s historic home of Pouilly in France’s Upper Loire Valley, where Sauvignon Blanc is the dominant varietal and goes locally by the name of ‘Blanc Fumé’. When treated with respect and afforded suitable growing conditions, Sauvignon Blanc is one of the wine world’s darlings. Steely, racy acidity, green, gooseberry fruit, asparagus and a grassy, herbaceous character characterize dry wines made from this grape.
Chenin Blanc:
Classic white varietal of France's Loire Valley and now grown throughout the world. Known for its rather unusual 'wet-wool', 'damp straw' aromas, it tends to be more floral than fruity when young and gives high acidity, growing well in marginal climates. It ages well and its susceptibility to 'botrytis'* produces some of the great sweet wines of the Loire, for example Quarts de Chaume and Vouvray. It is grown widely in South Africa where it is known as 'Steen'.
