Homestead

Homestead Wine Details
Price:

Description: Homestead is our version of the homemade red wines many of the local people still produce in their garages and basements. It is a blend of native Americans, including Ives and Fredonia, with just a little Cabernet Franc added. This is very popular in our tasting room, being a semi-sweet, fruity red, in which acidity and sweetness are well-balanced. Great with burgers, pizza and pasta. This wine has received a bronze medal in every competition entered.

Varietal Definition
Cabernet Franc:
Cabernet Franc is an accessible, spicy, herbal, dark blue grape variety that is often compared to Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc tends to be softer and has less tannin than Cabernet Sauvignon, although the two can be difficult to distinguish. Sometimes the French refer to Cabernets, which could mean either of the two grapes. Its typical aromas include an herbaceous and pronounced peppery nose, even in ripe fruit, and something eerily like tobacco. The Cabernet Franc ripens at an earlier stage, which gives it reason to exist in the Bordeaux area. In the Loire, where we find it a lot, it gives a clear red fresh and fruity wine.
Fredonia:
Fredonia is a blue labrusca table grape. It is similar to Concord except that it is earlier ripening, has larger berries, and its quality is a bit lower.
