Pegase Circle Chardonnay

Pegase Circle Reserve Chardonnay Wine Details
Price: $24.50 per bottle

Description: Amongst the 365 acres of Mitsuko’s Vineyard in Carneros, great diversity of soil and microclimate is in evidence. To make the most of this, we select the varieties we plant to each area, and within each variety, we select the clones that can best take advantage of each site. For our 2003 Pegase Circle Reserve Chardonnay we have selected clones to best represent the vineyard’s elegant aspects. Two distinct blocks provide contrasting elements to produce an harmonious whole. The rare “Rued” selection is responsible for the floral, perfumed aroma of the wine, while the old ‘Wente’ selection provides depth and power. Together, we arrive at a wine with intense floral and aromatic nose of peach, nectarine blossoms, jasmine and honeysuckle. The palate is focused on finesse and elegance, with moderate weight and a lingering, floral finish.

Varietal Definition
Chardonnay:
Chardonnay is by far the most widely planted grape crop in California and dominates California’s cooler, coastal, quality wine regions. The natural varietal ‘taste and smell’ of Chardonnay is surprisingly unfamiliar to many wine drinkers, as its true character is often guised with dominating winemaking signatures. Chardonnay’s rather subdued primary fruit characteristics lean toward the crisp fruitiness of apples, pears and lemon, but the variety’s full body is capable of supporting a host of complementary characteristics, such as oak, butter and vanilla. Regardless of what is the appropriate style for Chardonnay, the varietal continues to dominate vineyard plantings in every corner of the world. Close attention to clonal selection has made this broad geographic and climactic range of Chardonnay viable in thoughtful viticultural hands.
