Chardonnay Barcaglia Lane Russian River Valley

Chardonnay Barcaglia Lane Russian River Valley Wine Details
Price: $60.00 per bottle

Description: The source for our Barcaglia Lane Chardonnay is a single rolling vineyard in the Russian River Valley. Developed for us by the Dutton Family in 1998, the site consists of 3 sloping blocks planted to three distinct clones - 15, Dijon, and Old Wente - which yield wonderfully ripe and complex fruit character. Though recent crop levels have been exceptionally low, these vines are generating fruit of increasing depth and intensity every year. The 2003 vintage was fermented with native yeasts, aged sur lies in 100% French oak, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Compelling aromas of toasty oak, integrated with orange peel and citrus blossom lead the way, followed by rich and at the same time crisp fruit flavors, nuanced with elements of exotic spice. Thickly textured, balanced and complex, the wine is absolutely delicious. 400 cases produced.

Varietal Definition
Chardonnay:
Chardonnay is by far the most widely planted grape crop in California and dominates California’s cooler, coastal, quality wine regions. The natural varietal ‘taste and smell’ of Chardonnay is surprisingly unfamiliar to many wine drinkers, as its true character is often guised with dominating winemaking signatures. Chardonnay’s rather subdued primary fruit characteristics lean toward the crisp fruitiness of apples, pears and lemon, but the variety’s full body is capable of supporting a host of complementary characteristics, such as oak, butter and vanilla. Regardless of what is the appropriate style for Chardonnay, the varietal continues to dominate vineyard plantings in every corner of the world. Close attention to clonal selection has made this broad geographic and climactic range of Chardonnay viable in thoughtful viticultural hands.
