Hess Collection Malbec

Hess Collection Malbec Wine Details
Price:

Description: In the 2001 growing season Mother Nature provided nearly perfect spring and summer weather, allowing even fruit set, balanced ripening, and extensive hang time. Our well-drained mountain soils, extremely low yields, and excellent sun exposure of these Malbec blocks concentrated the flavors and ripened the phenolics to their optimum heights. Aromas of boysenberry, white pepper, & exotic spice are followed by toasty oak reminiscent of vanilla and caramelized brown sugar. The flavors of fresh black berry jam and caramel coated blueberries integrate with fine grain French oak, spice, and sage. Supple and seamless fleshy tannins coat the mid pallet and finish. The fruit forward character makes this wine approachable in 2004 while cellaring insures enjoyment over the next decade.

Varietal Definition
Malbec:
Originating from the Bordeaux region of France, this grape is among the "big six" for red wine grapes. Malbec is typically a medium to full-bodied red wine. Ripe fruit flavors of plums and blackberry give it a jammy characteristic. The tannins are typically a bit tight and the earthy, wood-like appeal makes for a fairly rustic wine. Malbec goes well with roast meats such as chicken or turkey. It should be served at 58F and can be aged for up to 5 years typically.
