Syrah Bien Nacido "Hillside Estate"

Syrah Bien Nacido "Hillside Estate" Wine Details
Price: $40.00 per bottle

Description: Now, more on the balance issue. These grapes were perfectly and physiologically ripe. The skins had just started to pucker – they were ready. Ripeness at 23.5 brix gave us 13.7 alcohol with refreshing acidity that keeps you wanting more. This is my kind of wine! I am reminded of a lesson I learned years ago from Gerard Chave of Domaine Jean-Louis Chave… he said “when you think it’s the perfect day to pick Syrah, pick it the day before!” This 2001 embodies all that I hope for in our Hillside Syrah… it’s a wine that is delicious now and will easily age 15-25 years.

Varietal Definition
Syrah is the eight hundred pound gorilla of Rhone grapes! In the vineyard and the winery, Syrah is typically an easy grape to work with - healthy, early ripening, resistant to mildew and rot; suitable for winemaking in a variety of styles. The wines from Syrah are tannic without being harsh. The wines will have a taste and smell of dark blue fruit like blackberries and blackcurrant, with a strong spicy side where one can find freshly ground pepper and other spices. Syrah is famous for its part in the French blends, such as Côtes du Rhone and Châteauneuf du Pape.
