Maximus Syrah Killer Juice

Maximus Syrah (Killer Juice) Wine Details
Price: $48.00 per bottle

Description: This is our "Sideways" wine. Miles and Jack taste Maximus 30 minutes, 17 seconds into the film while on their Monday outing following breakfast and preceding their visit to Foxen. Quoting Robert Parker in The Wine Advocate Issue #154: The serious 2002 Maximus is reminiscent of a Hermitage from France's northern Rhone Valley. This tightly-knit, dense ruby/purple-hued effort offers up a provactive bouquet of violets, blackberries, cassis, leather, and earth. Tangy acidity provides vibrancy and uplift to this medium to full-bodied, nicely layered , concentrated wine. Made in a cool climate style with authoritative flavors as well as considerable length, it should be cellared for 2-3 years, and enjoyed over the following 12-15. It is an intriguing effort from a vineyard just outside Los Olivos, California." Originating from our Hamburger’s Hill Estate fruit just 427 cases were produced. Conservatively scored in The Wine Advocate by Robert Parker, this is a fully-ripened rendition of the same wine he previously scored 93+ and 94.

Varietal Definition
Syrah:
Syrah is the eight hundred pound gorilla of Rhone grapes! In the vineyard and the winery, Syrah is typically an easy grape to work with - healthy, early ripening, resistant to mildew and rot; suitable for winemaking in a variety of styles. The wines from Syrah are tannic without being harsh. The wines will have a taste and smell of dark blue fruit like blackberries and blackcurrant, with a strong spicy side where one can find freshly ground pepper and other spices. Syrah is famous for its part in the French blends, such as Côtes du Rhone and Châteauneuf du Pape.
