Big River Branch Syrah

Big River Branch Syrah Wine Details
Price: $34.00 per bottle

Description: This is the first year we have produced a syrah from the wonderful vineyard at Big River Ranch in Alexander Valley. The tiny black berries gave the wine a beautiful deep purple hue, and we were delighted to discover the intense aromas of blackberries, toasted nuts, chocolate and dried fruit that characterize a classic syrah. In the mouth, the wine is absolutely lovely with flavors of cassis, blackberry, expresso coffee and chocolate. We expect this syrah to gain in complexity and intensity over the next eight years, and last for a further eight or more years.

Varietal Definition
Syrah:
Syrah is the eight hundred pound gorilla of Rhone grapes! In the vineyard and the winery, Syrah is typically an easy grape to work with - healthy, early ripening, resistant to mildew and rot; suitable for winemaking in a variety of styles. The wines from Syrah are tannic without being harsh. The wines will have a taste and smell of dark blue fruit like blackberries and blackcurrant, with a strong spicy side where one can find freshly ground pepper and other spices. Syrah is famous for its part in the French blends, such as Côtes du Rhone and Châteauneuf du Pape.
