Kennedy Shah

Kennedy Shah The newest label from Woodhouse Family Cellars takes its name from the owners’ newborn daughter, Kennedy Shah, and will raise funds for women’s and children’s causes. Twenty percent of gross revenues from sales of the Kennedy Shah label will go directly to a foundation benefiting such organizations. The Shahs intend to donate up to $75,000 with the first release of 2000 cases. Owners Bijal and Sinead Shah created the label to recognize the strength of local charity organizations to nurture support and inspire. According to Sinead Shah, “We want to celebrate the impact of philanthropy in this arena, and parenthood has reinforced for us the challenges facing so many women and children without access to adequate resources.” Some of the first local organizations to receive a donation from this release will include the Women’s Funding Alliance, Childhaven, Children’s Developmental Center, The First Tee, and the Seattle Girls’ School. The label will include a 1.5-liter Viognier, Chenin Blanc blend called Auntie Meredith’s Picnic Blend, named after Kennedy’s aunt. It will also include a Syrah and a Merlot blend. The wines range from $28 to $35 a bottle and available through Woodhouse Family Cellars and a limited number of select restaurants. Woodhouse Family Cellars is a partnership between the Shahs and winemaker Tom Campbell, Shah’s uncle. They debuted with 100 cases of their 1998 vintage of Darighe, a Bordeaux style blend that sold out three months after its release in 2001. Their 1999 Daríghe won critical acclaim as an ultra-premium wine that quickly generated a loyal following. Woodhouse Family Cellars also produces small allocations of two other premium wines, Dussek Family Cellars Cabernet and Maghie Cellars Merlot.

  Cabernet Sauvignon
This presents a nose of classic cabernet fruits entangled with hints of eucalyptus, licorice and deftly applied oak. Appealing now, but will age nicely with its rich fruits and firm tannins.
  Chardonnay/Chenin Blanc
A lively, complex bouquet of honeysuckle, nectarine and white peaches! The refreshing fruit is balanced nicely by the mouthwatering acidity.
  Kennedy Shah Merlot
For those who like more than a little personality in their glass. Earth and leather intertwined with an even dose of wood and dark fruits that linger in the mouth beyond expectation.
  Kennedy Shah Pinot Noir
Winemaker Tom Campbell has come up with something quite extraordinary, a unique Pinot Noir from his vineyard in Montana! It show off lucious round raspberries, ripe bing cherries and warm strawberries enveloped by sweet oak spices. Soft tannins and a cool acidity make this Pinot Noir a food pairing delight.
  Kennedy Shah Syrah
The 2002 vintage is a hot one, bringing out intense flavors in the fruit. Our Syrah capitalizes on this with rich blackberries, plum, smoke and a classic savory quality. The tannins are well integrated and balanced with fresh acidity lingering in the finish.
Has an aroma of smokey, peppered bacon and mulberry. color is dark, violet garnet. On the palate it is medium bodied and exhibits mixed spices, wild herb and berry characters. Very versatile wine for food pairing..
