Long Vineyards

Long Vineyards Long Vineyards' family-owned estate winery and vineyards are located in the eastern hills of Napa Valley between Stags Leap and Howell Mountain, on Pritchard Hill, at 800-1000 feet elevation overlooking Lake Hennessey. The Wine Spectator calls Pritchard Hill "the home to profound Cabernets" and "Napa's new Grand Cru." The appellation is "Napa Valley." All our wines are from single vineyards and are 100% varietal. We have maintained our production level at 4000 cases to allow maximum attention to the production side of grape-growing and wine-making. From our estate: Chardonnay (1200 cases per year); an 'Old Vines' Chardonnay (130 cases in selected years); Cabernet Sauvignon (300-400 cases); and late-harvest Johannisberg Riesling (200 cases). Two Italian varietals are produced from specially selected Sonoma vineyards: Pinot Grigio, Laird Family Vineyard, Carneros (1100 cases); and Sangiovese, Seghesio, Geyserville (300-400 cases).

  "Old Vines" Chardonnay
An extravagantly concentrated and complex unfiltered wine, this Chardonnay expresses a strikingly clear sense of Long Vineyards' 35-year old vineyard in full flower with experienced winemaking and delivers a mouthful of aroma and flavor - explosive ripe pears, muscat, orange blossoms, with a mineral substrate. Its rich satin texture fills the senses and holds strong through its lengthy finish with notes of Crêpes Suzette - caramelized butter, sugar, and orange - and hints of vanilla and oak char.

  Cabernet Sauvignon
Dark purple plum, black cherry, and currant, with hints of anise and chocolate, are matched with overtones of creamy, toffee-toasted oak. The texture is especially velvety, the tannins smooth and polished, and the finish long and complex. Long Vineyards Cabernet is taking its place among the best produced in Napa Valley, on Pritchard Hill.

  Chardonnay
Our 25th anniversary vintage is classic Long Vineyards - well balanced and attractively intense. Concentration and complexity are the hallmarks of these old vineyards. The Chardonnay clones exhibit six different characters: spicy ripe apple, white peach, lemon citrus, golden delicious apple, and citrus/muscat. This aromatic complexity harmonizes with the mineral expression associated with this distinctive mountain vineyard, and it finishes with impressive length as the fruit and the ever-present flint/slate notes reassert themselves over the barrel flavors.
  Chardonnay, Estate Grown Napa Valley
Our 26th vintage is classic Long Vineyards – well balanced and attractively intense. Concentration and complexity are the hallmarks of these 20 to 30 year old vineyards. Our Chardonnay selection exhibits several different flavors and aromas: citrus/melon, white peach, lemon/butter, and muscat/honeysuckle. This aromatic complexity harmonizes with the mineral expression associated with this distinctive mountain vineyard, and it finishes with impressive length as the fruit and the ever-present flint/slate notes reassert themselves over the barrel flavors.
  Johannisberg Riesling Botrytis
Gorgeous “middle Mosel-style” nose of vibrant Riesling fruit, displaying textbook Long Vineyards aromatics and botrytis tones. Dramatic scents of tropical flowers add beauty to a cascade of peach, pear, grapefruit. Long, intense, densely fruited, perfectly focused and delicately refreshing, it fills the mouth with layers of flavors.
  Johannisberg Riesling, Botrytis
Gorgeous, "middle Mosel-style" nose of vibrant Riesling fruit, displaying the textbook Long Vineyards aromatics and botrytis tones. Dramatic scents of orchids and other tropical flowers add their beauty to a cascade of peach, pear, grapefruit. Long, intense, densely fruited, perfectly focused and delicately refreshing, it fills the mouth with layers of flavors. The 2000 is more typical "Auslese" style of Long Vineyards - more of an aperitif than a dessert wine.
  'PATRICIA' RED WINE NORTH COAST
A blend of 2002 Cabernet and 2000 Syrah emphasizes the grapes’ fruit and the barrel aging to make a wine that is soft but rich and complements spicy tomato-based dishes. The Cabernet contributes the berry aroma and the Syrah the spicy element.
'PATRICIA' WHITE TABLE WINE, Estate Grown Napa Valley
A unique blend of Johannisberg Riesling and Chardonnay from our vineyard on Pritchard Hill Napa Valley combines the depth of Chardonnay and the light lingering fruitiness and acidity of Riesling. This wine is reminiscent stylistically of our Pinot Grigio with the character of Viognier. It has a slight hint of residual sugar. Definite tastes of peaches, apples and plums combine with distinctive minerality and acidity.
  Pinot Grigio
This is not your Italian Pinot Grigio. This is a wine that has Pinot Grigio style with California body – immediate forward fruit, rich and silky, with stone fruit flavors – peach and pear, persistent aromatics, bright acidity, and a long finish.
  Sangiovese
The wine opens aromatically to reveal a slight rhubarb quality in balance with red fruit – plums, black cherries, pomegranate, tomato – and a faint leathery note. In the mouth, rich fruit and wood are beautifully integrated, with notably fine-grained tannins contributing to an impression of easy accessibility.
