Mount Eden Vineyards

Mount Eden Vineyards Mount Eden Vineyards is a small historic wine estate located on a 2000 foot peak in the Santa Cruz Mountain Range about 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Founded in 1942, it is recognized as one of the original “boutique” California Winery properties, focusing on small lots of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Our lineage of estate bottled Chardonnay and Pinot Noir is the longest in California. Planted in austere, infertile Franciscan shale on a cool, exposed mountain top, these low-yielding estate vineyards have consistently produced world class wines for over a half century.

  Cabernet Sauvignon Estate
Our estate cabernet sauvignon is a Bordeaux-style blend of approximately 75% cabernet, 22% merlot, and 3% cabernet franc, although the cepage varies by vintage. This high mountain, cool coastal vineyard is an unusual area for California cabernet sauvignon. Refreshing acidity and moderate alcohol reflect this uniqueness. Fine integrated tannins buttress typical flavors of red currant, blackberry, and earth. Cellaring between ten to fifteen years in recommended.
  Chardonnay Estate
This full bodied chardonnay displays fine underlying acidity and a long finish, with hints of cardamom, anise and hazelnut which add interest to the fundamental lemon-mineral flavors. Of all Mount Eden’s estate-grown wines, our chardonnay is most in need of further bottle aging at time of release, requiring an additional two to four years to fully reveal its true character. Many vintages are still fresh and enjoyable after fifteen years; this wine is considered one of the longest-lived white wines produced in California.
  Chardonnay West Slope
This is a big, full-blown chardonnay with ripe tropical fruit aromas, lush, mouth-filling flavors, and a complex, toasty, creamy tone from barrel and malolactic fermentation and extended sur lie aging.
  Chardonnay Wolff Vineyard
Full lush tropical fruits dominate this wine from the outset. Complex and heady on the palate, it is a premier example of one of the finest chardonnays grown in California's Central Coast area.
  Cuvée Saratoga Cabernet Sauvignon
Fleshy and ripe with flavors of black cherry, plum, cocoa and soil the cuvée is softer and more accessible than the estate cabernet in its youth. We blend it with small amounts of merlot and cabernet franc for complexity
  Pinot Noir Estate
The varietal character emphasizes wild strawberry, earth, blueberry and dill. Elegance and transparency is the key to our style. Cellaring from five to twelve years will pay handsome rewards. The soil in our estate vineyards and our cellar practice give a more Burgundian style rather than a Californian one.
