Forested vistas, rows and rows of vineyard, a rural experience of rare beauty indeed. Yet just down the path from Southern Illinois University. Civilization, so to speak. St. Louis is only a two hour drive. And the major attractions of the area are only minutes away. You may want to start with a stroll to explore your own immediate environment. The B&B is on a 30 acre estate with a 5-acre vineyard all surrounding Kite Hill Pond. Long necked Canada Geese occasionally drop by for a dip and a snack. Wet a hook if you like.. Or just commune with nature. Of course, if the serenity gets to you, we'll be more than happy to put you to work in the vineyard. The main house at Kite Hill is country style with large porches front and rear. It was just completed in the spring of the year 2000 and was specially designed for casual comfort throughout. Out the back, down the path, over the dam and quite possibly past a herd of deer you couldn't scare with a cannon you'll find Kite Hill Cottage. With its large trellised deck out front, it faces west on Kite Hill Pond for gorgeous reflected sunsets. Sit out on a starry night, watch the fireflies dance and listen to the crickets in symphony as the bullfrogs punctuate the party.
