Kynsi Winery

Kynsi is a small family winery located in the temperate Edna Valley Appellation of San Luis Obispo on the Central Coast of California. Don and Gwen Othman, the winemaker/proprietors, focus on producing vineyard designated wines, sourcing their grapes from select coastal vineyards. Our passion for quality from the vineyard to the bottle is manifested in lush, generously complex, elegantly balanced wines that reflect distinctive terrior and varietal character. 1995 was our inaugural vintage. Currently we produce 2000 cases of single vineyard Pinot Noir, Syrah and Chardonnay along with Merrah, a Merlot/Syrah marriage. Zinfandel from the Barn Owl Vineyard in Adelaida on the west side of Paso Robles will join the line up with the 2001 vintage. Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Syrah from the Bien Nacido Vineyard were added in 2002. Estate Pinot Noir from our Stone Corral Vineyard that was planted on the ranch in 2001 will round out our offerings in the near future. Our production goals are not to exceed 4500 cases. The winery resides in a charming renovated 1940's dairy located in the beauty of the Edna Vallley. The old milk processing room is the entrance and the setting for our tasting room. High coved ceilings and the original cold room door leading into the wine vault contribute to the unique character and cozy ambience. Our label features the resident barn owl that roosts in the old barn adjacent to the winery. Each spring she and her mate nest and add to the owl population in the valley. Barn owls are friends of the vineyards and our gardens.

Chardonnay
Aromas of apple blosoms and pear combine with citrus, apple and lightly toasted almond on the clean, smooth finish.

Merrah
Complex aromas of blackberry, cassis, black cherry, pomegranate, dark plums, white pepper, with wiffs violets, leather and mint. Spicy toasty oak blends with the deep fruit flavors on the long smooth finish.

Pinot Blanc
White nectarine and honeydew join with a variety of citrus flavors with a clean, bright finish.

Lush layers of berries, herb laced cherries and cinnamon combine on the long delicate toasty oak finish.

Voluptuous tiers of dark berries, currants, dried cherries and cola spice, fuse with hints of anise on the full finish.

Syrah
Deep ruby purple color with aromas of sweet dark berries, plums, white pepper, cardamon, smoke and dried herbs. Opulent texture, rich with complex dark spicy fruit flavors that linger.
