Ledgewood Creek Winery

Ledgewood Creek Winery he winery's beginnings date back to 1985 when Dean and Bunny Frisbie bought a pear orchard in the little know Suisun Valley viticultural area. To honor the pioneering Peabody family and their long-standing farming history in the valley, they named the orchard Peabody Ranch. By 1989, vineyards had replaced the pear orchard and the original Peabody Ranch was soon incorporated into what is now Ledgewood Creek Winery & Vineyards. With Ledgewood Creek running along the property's northern edge, the original Peabody Ranch vineyard proved so successful that the overall holdings few to include over 350 acres planted with grapes. In the fall of 2002, Ledgewood Creek Winery released its first wines from the 2001 harvest. The vineyards and winery remain family-owned and operated with patriarch Dean Frisbie as General Manager and son James sharing his time between wine sales and vineyard marketing. The Frisbies' philosophy has always been, "If it is broken, fix it…and if it is not, how can we improve upon it?" Those who grow the grapes at Ledgewood Creek work tirelessly to find the vineyard's best expression of fruit quality and continued vine balance. This means constant fine tuning of canopy management, fertilization schedules, irrigation techniques, and crop tonnages. Fruit at Ledgewood Creek is harvested by hand - the red grapes by day, and the whites at night. Night harvesting, while costly and time consuming, has proven the best method to control the quality of the fruit harvested. After the grapes are picked, consulting winemaker Larry Langbehn takes over and the magic begins. Carefully arranging his profile palate of flavors, aromas, acids, and tannins, Larry determines which lots are best for each label. With complete authority over barrel regime, he begins by using a selection of new and seasoned barrels. His flavor palate is ever-expanding with new aromas, textures, acids, and tannin levels. With all of these elements before him, he can then perform blending to produce the perfectly balanced wines that are Ledgewood Creek.

  Cabernet Sauvignon
Like our prior releases, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon blends grapes grown in the Wooden Valley area of Napa Valley with those of our own estate vineyard in Suisun Valley. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is bursting with rich, dark fruit that explodes in the middle mouth and retains a nice, lingering aftertaste. Good tannin structure and judicious oak aging balances this wine that complements steaks, chops and full-flavored dishes.
  Fume Blanc
Wildly fragrant, with a vibrant medley of passion fruit, honeysuckle, roasted peach and apricot character. Tangy lime acidity and cedary notes keep the flavors focused through a lingering finish. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.
  Grenache
Grenache is the most widely planted grape in the Rhone Valley of France. It is vigorous and requires mid-season shoot thinning to restrict growth and allow for greater concentrations of fruit, tannin and acids. Our 2005 Grenache is blended 15% with Viognier to produce a burst of fruit that is very approachable and is filled with currant, cherry and licorice flavors. Brilliant ruby red, this Grenache is finished dry and is a wonderful wine for lighter meals.
  Merlot
The 2005 Merlot is carefully crafted from grapes grown on the borders of Ledgewood Creek where warm summer days are tempered by cool coastal breezes which provide the perfect growing conditions for world class wine grapes. Deep purple color, with concentrated berry and jam.
  PicNique Chardonnay
Pleasantly light and fruity with an appealing aroma, this wine?s dominant flavors are lemon and citrus. The decision to stainless steel ferment this wine successfully highlights its balanced acidity and delivers the wine?s crisp character. The subsequent barrel-aging adds a welcome unit of complexity. Enjoy this wine as an aperitif or with light dishes like Margarita Pizza, lemon chicken, or any Asian cuisine.
  Roussanne
Originating in the Rhone Valley in France, Roussanne is traditionally used as a blending grape in many of the world-famous wines of Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Rich and complex, Roussanne is distinctive for its soft and lingering flavors. As a stand-alone varietal, Roussanne ages well due to its unusual combination of richness and crisp acids. Our 2005 Roussanne is blended 15% with Viognier and presents a pleasant acid balance, strong textural elements and a clean, lingering finish. Enjoy with risotto, cheese and pesto.
  Sauvignon Blanc
Exclusively produced from our estate grown fruit, our 2005 Sauvignon Blanc is fragrant with orange blossom and delicate lemon grass flavors. It is bright, fresh and vibrant, picking up green apple and tart citrus on its leading edge and then filling the mouth with honey-like flavors that make for a nice, lingering finish. Finely balanced, this wine is an ideal accompaniment to shellfish, lemon chicken, Thai dishes and other Asian cuisine.
  Syrah
Beautiful, dark purple-black hues introduce this wine in the glass. Its aromas are of blackberry and currant that enrich this wine that is bursting with fruit and mid-palate richness. The warm climate of Suisun Valley allows the flexible Syrah grape to thrive and achieve full varietally-specific characters. Oak aging adds to the complex, long, smooth, full taste that complements roast beef, roast pork and other hearty dishes.
  Three Clone Chardonnay
Classically crafted. The Three Clone Chardonnay was 100% barrel fermented and barrel aged for 12 months. Following a partial malolactic fermentation, the barrel aging was completed using 50% French and 50% American oak; 50% of them new. Toasty oak aromas with hints of melon are evident in the nose and are followed by rich, buttery tropical flavors. A long balanced finish makes the wine a perfect complement to rich white meat dishes and shellfish.
  Viognier
Viognier is highly aromatic with floral tones of honeysuckle, apricot and violets. It has a mineral-like mouth with fruity flavors of peach and moderate acidity. Historically grown in the northern Rhone Valley in France, California Viognier thrives in the warm climate of Suisun Valley and produces richer, honey-like flavors. This 2005 Viognier is produced from our estate vineyards in Suisun Valley. It is blended with 20% Roussanne to build the flavor component and allow for a pleasing lingering finish. The wine pairs well with Asian Cuisine, light curry and cream dishes.
