Harrison Vineyards

Harrison Vineyards The Harrison's had the grapes, but lacked the facilities to make wine so the first few vintages were made by custom crushing at another winery. The first commercial wines - a 1989 Chardonnay and a 1989 Cabernet Sauvignon were released in 1990 and 1991, respectively. Both wines met with immediate critical success. Receiving high marks from virtually all of the wine press. "Our neighbors stepped in once again to help by plugging us into the wine distribution circuit," says Lyndsey explaining how the popularity of the wine had grown quickly. The Harrison Estate is comprised of five separate small vineyards. Two original vineyards of cabernet had been planted in the early 1970s. At the time, the vines were 27 years old and had originally been planted as Gamay grapes that were T-budded to Cabernet and Chardonnay. In 1989 the three and a half acres that wrap around the house were replanted with Cabernet (the grape of choice on Pritchard Hill). Most of the rootstock is the phylloxera resistant St. George. They have been more fortunate than many of their Napa Valley contemporaries. In 1997 a .75-acre spot behind the main house was cleared and planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. Because of the steep hillside there is little room for any further planting. We have now replanted a third of our 35 year old vineyard and will continue to replant the balance as these vines start to produce.

  Cabernet Sauvignon
A richly textured Cabernet brimming with blueberries, ripe cherry, cassis, and spicy blackberry tea. Smoky, toasty oak tones are woven together with silky chocolate, coffee, and earthy black truffle notes. The finish is supple, yet accents the fine, well-focused tannins and bright core of fruit.
  Chardonnay
The aromatic mix of floral, orange blossom, citrus, and apricot waft from your glass. The well filled out mid palate has considerable weight and is somewhat showy with its lively fruit. Rich, spicy, vanilla oak complements that considerable fruit, and hints of creamy caramel and butterscotch flan enhance the finish. A long-lived Chardonnay.
  Chardonnay
The nose offers apple, honey, nutmeg, and apricot. The creamy mouth feel of vanilla flan and hazelnut enhances citrus notes. Pear and peach flavors generously balance the seductive smoky oak. The finish is round, full, and lingers well after the glass is emptied.
  Claret
Immediate aromas abound with perfumed ripe Damson plums, raspberries, Bing cherries, and blackberries before you even swirl your wine glass. Spicy notes from the Syrah drift across the palate mingling with smoky oak and fruit. A well filled out, balanced wine with no edges and a long, lingering finish.
  Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Typical black fruit nose immediately recognizable from our Pritchard Hill vineyards. Black cherry, cassis, black plums, black raspberry liquor intermingle with earthy, truffle, and cigar box notes. An opaque, dense wine that will not allow you to view the bottom of your glass. It’s a seamless, mouth filling wine from the first taste. You will want to drink all you have purchased now. Please save a few bottles, as it will certainly improve over the years.
  Merlot
Definitely not a typical Merlot! The deep purple-black hue gives the first indication of the intensity of this merlot. On the palate, bittersweet chocolate and black fruit compote complement tarry, tobacco, orange peel notes. The long finish makes this a wine to cellar (if you can wait). This is a big Merlot for people who usually drink Cabernet Sauvignon and think Merlot is for sissies. Will benefit with twenty minutes aeration or decanting.
  Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
The less than one ton per acre yield is evident by the blue-black color of our tiny 145 case production of this bold, extracted wine. Aromas of violets, blackberry tea, truffles, and tobacco abound before experiencing the flavors of the typical all black fruit from our Pritchard Hill estate vineyard. Black raspberry liqueur, cassis, plums, and bittersweet chocolate fill your mouth, finishing with velvety richness. Twenty minutes of aeration will enhance your appreciation.
  Reserve Chardonnay
Powerful aromas of pear nectar, orange blossom, and beeswax assail your nose. You taste ripe apple-pear fruit combined with creamed honey, rather like butterscotch flan. A huge lush wine that is not bashful, also managing to retain elegance long after you finish the glass. The additional time in barrel fills out the mid palate adding layers of complexity. A Chardonnay for those who mostly drink red wine.
  Reserve Merlot
This is a wine for cabernet drinkers who usually dismiss merlots and for people who are not afraid of big, intense wine. Almost purplish-black in color, this wine's up-front aromas jump straight from the glass. Deep, rich jammy-plum and cassis are intensified with underlying spicy oak and leather notes. Take a sip and let the flavor of spicy dark chocolate covered cherries fill your mouth. Full-bodied, with a very long and lingering finish, this is a wine to cellar and a wine to share, but definitely not for the faint-hearted!
  Sauvignon Blanc
The aromatics get your attention from the beginning. Very forward aromas of honey dew, cantaloupe, and musk melon, passion fruit, and papaya mingle with fresh herbs and citrus. Zesty grapefruit, lime, and mineral notes are accentuated by vibrant, refreshing acidity. The wine shows good depth and a long finish.
  Syrah
Dark magenta in color. The nose offers bold, intense black fruit aromatics; raspberry, plum, and boysenberry with underlying hints of cloves, black pepper, and earth. A completely mouth filling young wine that is soft, luxurious, and dense at the same time. Layered stone fruit and berries are well integrated with spicy oak.
  Zebra Zin
Intense dark purple in color, wonderful jammy, raspberry, blackberry, and blueberry aromas waft from your glass immediately. An abundance of sweet, plush, earthy fruit is heightened by hints of spice, bittersweet chocolate, and white pepper from the five percent Syrah component. Full bodied and sumptuous, the ripe fruit is accentuated by wood apparent from the first sip through the grand finale. Encore! Encore!
