Lynch Knoll Vineyards

Lynch Knoll Vineyards We have 5 acres on lower Spring Mountain, just below the historic Stony Hill vineyard. The vineyards sit 800 ft above the valley floor on the western slope facing into the valley. Our hillside vineyard is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Sangiovese and Merlot grapes and total production for the vineyard averages 300-400 cases. Our vineyard manager, Jim Barbour, has stressed the vines on the hillside thus allowing our winemaker, Heidi Barrett, to construct these wines to be rich and fruity in their youth. The 5 acres of vines at Lynch Knoll were originally cleared and planted in 1995. We put in a half acre of Merlot for blending, 2.5 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, 1 acre of Syrah and 1 acre of Sangiovese. The first tiny crop came in 1998. The fruit from this vineyard makes intense wine because the hillsides are rocky and the soil is not too rich, it yields about 1 to 2 tons per acre depending on the weather. In '02 seven rows of the Cab were replanted to Syrah because the rootstock could not produce much fruit in that small shallow area. Because the Syrah from this area is awesome, in '03 we took out the Sangiovese and replanted it to Syrah as well. That was painful as the Sangio was delicious, but nature was telling us that Syrah from the Knoll is the best use of the soil and location. We will get our first harvest from that new Syrah block (right beside the old Syrah block) in '05. This will then double the Syrah output! This fall we also put in some

  Lynch Cabernet Sauvignon
This is our fourth vintage of Cabernet from our Lynch Knoll vineyards on lower Spring Mountain. Deep, dark, garnet regal purple in hue with a lovely nose of cedar, cassis and vanilla with subtle oak. This silky smooth Cabernet opens to reveal layers of plum and black currant with soft tannins and a long velvety finish.
  Lynch Sangiovese
Bright garnet-ruby red in color with elegant tobacco and cranberry aromas and tingling acidity. The flavors range from strawberry to minerals to licorice. The wine has enough cut to match up with a fig & pancetta salad, but the creamy, almost silky texture makes it equally nice as a stand-alone aperitif
  Lynch Syrah
This wine is a beautiful deep purplish black ink color with appealing blueberry, spice and menthol notes. A hearty and well-balanced wine; well paired with roasted lamb or beef. Decant and enjoy or cellar this wine for 10-15 years. When the newly replanted Syrah vines mature this year, we should double our Syrah production to over 100 cases.
Napa Dan "Pool Yard Chard" Chardonnay
Aptly named "Pool Yard Chard" this Chardonnay is made from grapes surrounding the pool house of Lynch Vineyards. These grapes grow in Eastern Napa County where the warm days and cool evenings make for a late bloom and early harvest - and a very crisp, smooth, deliciously drinkable wine. The nose offers delightful hints of green apple and nectarine components with subtle notes of toasty oak. This non-malolactic Chardonnay exhibits more fruitier characteristics while maintaining an overall creamy structure. The wine was barrel fermented for 8 months in 100% new French oak barrels.
Napa Dan "Pool Yard Chard" Chardonnay
Aptly named "Pool Yard Chard" this Chardonnay is made from grapes surrounding the pool house of Lynch Vineyards. These grapes grow in Eastern Napa County where the warm days and cool evenings make for a late bloom and early harvest and a very crisp, smooth, deliciously drinkable wine. The Chardonnay underwent 100% malolactic fermentation which reduces the total acidity of the wine while adding to the rich, buttery character associated with malolactic fermentation. The wine was barrel fermented for 12 months in 100% 2-year-old French oak.
  Napa Dan Cabernet Sauvignon
This is our first release of Napa Dan Cabernet Sauvignon and is made with 100% Napa Valley grapes. The wine has a beautiful crimson color with big cherry notes in the nose and tutti fruity berry jammy cassis flavors that infuse the mouth. Mouthfilling but not overpowering with a wonderfully smooth finish.
  Napa Dan Cabernet Sauvignon
This is our 2nd release of Cabernet Sauvignon created with fruit from Lynch Valley Ranch in Eastern Napa County. Deep, dark crimson in color with toasted coffee, leather and nutmeg aromas. This rich and chewy Cabernet exhibits flavors of crushed black cherry and cassis with hints of American Oak. Enjoy now or cellar this wine for future enjoyment.
  NapaDan Merlot
Juicy red fruits- cherry aromas, jammy berry and mild accents of violet on the pallette with a touch of earthy tones. The Napa Dan Merlot was created by blending our 1999 and 2000 vintage Merlot from Lynch Knoll on Spring Mountain. This Merlot has soft tannins and a smooth long finish. This wine drinks great now and compliments a vast array of dishes. Cellar this wine and enjoy for years to come.
