Delectus Winery

Delectus Winery Gerhard and Linda launched Delectus Winery in 1995 with a focus on making wines representing the terroir of each vineyard. It was during their first overseas trip together that Linda and Gerhard saw Michelangelo's David, which provided the initial spark of inspiration for starting their own winery based on single-minded, uncompromising pursuit of an ultimate ideal. For that reason, a sketch of David appears on the Delectus label. Having established relationships with several of the best growers in the region, Gerhard and Linda set out to produce stellar wines they most enjoy: distinctive red wines that are big and bold without being overpowering. Each wine expresses a sense of place or terroir from carefully selected single-vineyard sources.

Products

  Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville
Aromas of cherry liqueur, crème-de-cassis, well-integrated oak, some vanilla bean, cocoa. Well-structured mouth feel, a trace of dust, loaded with dark fruit, rich chocolate, and a very long finish.
  Cabernet Sauvignon, Sacrashe Vineyard
Typically the most glorious Cabernetlot in our cellar, the 2003 Sacrashe once again meets those expectations. The high and low spots of this rolling hilltop vineyard showed slightly different levels of ripeness during harvest and were picked a week apart. The wine is expressive with intense complexity, enticing character, and a gorgeous mouth feel. Only 220 cases produced. Where do you ever start with the Sacrashe Cab?! Spice rack, boysenberry, deep mineral flavors, crushed rock, blueberry, smoked ham hocks and clove aromas come to mind. The palate is seamless, elegant, a big chewy mouthful, with deep, rich flavors and a beautiful structure.(02/07)
  Cuvée Julia
Aromas of cardamom, graphite, creamy blackberry and nutmeg are immersed in dusty mineral components. Powerful entrance with a full middle body and long saturated tannins fold into ripe, deep and dark flavors which finish with hints of cocoa. Once again, Julia created the painting for her wine label. As part of a Kindergarten project, it is an artistic version of the American flag as seen through the eyes of a five-year old girl. Three different techniques were used to complete the piece. The blend contains more than 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, rounded out with Petite Sirah and Merlot.
  Dog-Gone Good
With the persistence of the "canine fan club," Flash celebrated his 10th birthday having his first wine bottled. The new addition to the line up features a different package, complete with an oil portrait of him by great friend (and customer) Sally Rae of St. Helena. Although we purposely sought to bring a fun touch to this product, the wine is a quite serious blend of our Merlot (62%), Cabernet Sauvignon (35%), and Syrah / Petite Sirah (3%). The nose features candied cherry, blueberry, licorice, nutmeg, and earthy undertones. Plush mouth of dark plum stew flavors with a smooth velvety finish.
  Petite Sirah
Aromas of graphite, cedar, blackberry, dark cherry, and crème fraiche lead to a velvety mouth feel, with an orange zest core packed in a sleeve of white chocolate, peripheral tannins and a 40 second finish. Stunning!
  Syrah, Mt. George Vineyard
The nose displays aromas of papaya seeds, star fruit, black cherries, licorice, tar, and mango peel. The mouth features blueberry and blackberry, ground roasted pecan, with a linear mouth feel and a lemon drop finish.
