Kaz Vineyard & Winery
|
|
Our Tasting Room at our Winery, a.k.a. the Barn, is open Fridays through Mondays. This is one of the few wineries where you can meet the winemaker, vineyard manager, tasting room manager and owner all in one visit... heck one "hello". Kaz, himself, pours 2 or 3 days a week. Even if he's not around you'll see his infallible mark on his winery. From multiple poster depicting his odd sense of humor to the bar that he built himself, Kaz lets his patrons know who he is every step of the way.
The Family gets in on the act too. Sandi, Mrs. Kaz, pours on Saturdays and Mondays while their Son, Ryan and his wife to be, Emily, rule the tasting room on Sundays. Kaz's daughter, Kristin, materializes time to time to put smiles on the faces of all who enter the winery.

Bravura - Barbera
A Big Barbera for sure! This is the second vintage Kaz has made with grapes from St. Olof Vineyard in Lake County. The '03 Bravura was one of our most popular wines to date. Rich aromas and subtle berry fruit caress the pallet.
|
Champs - Cabernet Sauvignon
This is our first Cab Sauvignon non-blend. We've always blended this titanic verietal with others like Petit Verdot, Merlot, Petite Sirah and Zinfandel, but now it's a solo act. And gues what? It still rocks! Smoothoak and subtle fruit will fill your pallet with a beautiful balance of both. It's full bodied but not over the top.
If it continues to get even better it may rank among our best wines ever. To Kaz fans that would mean that it's as amazing as the Mainliner (Lenoir), Red Said Fred, Rally and ZAM.

Deevah - Barbera & Syrah
|
Hooligans - Grenache
|
Kazza Roja - NV Red House Wine
This is a big blend of varietals that is big on complexity. A spiced berry fruit nose and a layered body will intrigue your senses. The acidity is mellowing at a good rate and cellaring will make a masterpiece. We release most of our wines as soon as they are approachable and let you cellar them. Why? Some of you love the taste and it also helps keep the cost down. Storing wine somewhere costs quite a lot. Ya gotta love the honesty!

Mary Tauge - Cabernet Sauvignon & Petit Verdot
This is an intense, full body red wine with hints of black cherry. It may be big but it is amazingly smooth.
The couple in the photo are John and Mary Tauge. Mary was a favorite great aunt to the vineyard owner who provides these fabulous grapes.

Outbound - Cabernet Franc
Our biggest lot yet! 8 whole barrels. Compared to most wineries that is still a laugh, but to us it's serious business. Being that Cab Franc is loved by the Kaz family we decided that we should have enough of it so that we to could enjoy it ourselves. So often our favorites are gone in a flash. Perhaps Outbound might find its way to our personal cellars... to bad it's so DAMN GOOD! It won't stay on the shelves as long as we had hoped. It's decadent nose and full body are just too good to be true. Why, oh why, did it have to have such a perfect oak flavor? Why didn't we make more?
|
Red Said Fred - Cab, Zin, Merlot & Petite Sirah
This is a full bodied, yummy field blend with complex fruit. A rich Huckleberry pie in a bottle. If you liked or loved the 2003 vintage you'll be happy to know that this 2004 is so similar that even we are shocked. The only difference we can notice is that the 2004 may be the slightest bit richer in flavor.
|
Sangiofranc - Sangiovese & Cab Franc
For years we've produced a field blend of neighbor Ed Ricci's Sangiovese and Cab Franc called Sangiofranc. This is a bigger than average Sangiovese with a beautiful balance of fruit & tannins.
|
Sarah Nader - Zinfandel
A fantastic mix of fruits and spices. This one will go down easy with its ultra smooth finish. Sarah Nader will serenade your senses!
|
Trixie's Secret - Nebbiolo Rosa (Pink)
A Rose done the right way! Strawberry and Peach Jam will greet your nose and an off-dry juice will delight the tongue. Once again Kaz put his stamp on this already rare pink grape by keeping the wine unfiltered.
|
ZAM - Zinfandel, Alicante Bouschet & Mourvedre
Big port-like nose. The body is lighter than you would think from the nose. A slight jamminess is washed away by fruits and spice and everything nice!
