Chiarello Family Vineyards

Chiarello Family Vineyards Tending 94-year-old vines around my home, I've been fortunate to craft highly rated, small production, estate grown wines since 1998. A labor of love, sustainably farmed, and simply the most satisfying of all my personal endeavors. Surrounding the historic "old vines," we have Zinfandel and two distinctly different Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards, along with the Old Vine Petite Sirah and Old Vine Zinfandel. Our wines carry the story of my family and our personal, hands-on care of the vineyards in each glass. The natural and sustainable way we farm is a key factor in the high quality of the final wine. As we preserve our soils "naturally," we also preserve our heritage. Taste our story in every glass...

  Bambino Cabernet Sauvignon
Our first Cabernet from a new block of vines planted in the middle of the Chiarello estate vineyards. It didn’t quite fit into the Eileen blend so we knew a second Cabernet was born. Michael came up with the name in literally five seconds and it could not have fit more perfectly. The nose of our first Bambino is dominated by cedar, pine needles and mint. The palate follows this earthy lead offering up cloves, mint and celery seed. The oak contributes a sweet cream/vanilla element that balances the round tannin component in the wine. Sweet black fruits round out the finish.
  Eileen Cabernet Sauvignon
Our very limited 2003 Eileen Cabernet is our tribute to women! A curvy cab with hips,it has an exotic nose (think allspice meets anise) and an elegant palate ... a St. Helena trademark of late. Lingering in the finish, it possesses dark red currant fruit, plums, mint, toasty oak and a nice earthiness.
  Eileen Cabernet Sauvignon
This is a Cabernet that is perfectly round right now but will only get better with a few years of age. I have always enjoyed the lusciousness of this Cab; it enjoys being paired with many different foods, and loves to go from main course to a dessert featuring cheeses or chocolate. Try it with my Cocoa Spice Forever Roasted Pork. By substituting Cocoa Spice for Fennel Spice, this dish pairs wonderfully with the Cab. This wine is saturated dark ruby in color. It has a concentrated nose of currant, violets, cedar shavings and black truffles. Its palate has a very site specific black fruit & cigar box quality along with blackcurrant, licorice, minerals and a touch of anise.
  Felicia Old Vine Zinfandel
For me, this Old Vine Zinfandel block is truly a labor of love. Fantastic quality and very low yield mean I can only make less than 200 cases each year, but I felt it is my duty as a steward of this beautiful land to farm these historic 94-year old vines. They make a spectacular, big fruit forward wine. Enjoy it with my Medium Rare Lamb Stew recipe.
  Giana Zinfandel
As many of you know, I call Zinfandel the "golden retriever" of reds, as it loves almost all food and all palates. The 2004 Giana Zinfandel boasts a deep fruit core, a wonderful sweetness and richness, notes of plums, black cherries, raspberries, cocoa and licorice. And for the first time, it has a gentle kiss of Petite Sirah, allowing it to "ride higher in the saddle." With only 475 cases made, its a sure sellout by late summer. Try it with barbeque, ribs or "south of the border" spicy dishes!
  Giana Zinfandel
A great Zinfandel is a food-lover's best friend; it easily goes spicy ribs to tangy cheese to dark chocolate. This is the biggest Giana made to date off of the vines that surround our house. Try it with my Baby Back Ribs with Espresso BBQ Sauce recipe, a year-round favorite. It is a medium purple color, with pitched aromas of honeysuckle, raspberries, cola and mint. It has a sweet and very broad palate that has a real bubblegum entry before fanning out into clove, cinnamon, bittersweet chocolate and briary Zinberry fruit. The 16+ percent alcohol is well balanced by bright acidity.
  Roux Old Vine Petite Sirah
Roux is the nickname of my oldest daughter, Margaux. And like her, these 94-year old vineyards have simply blossomed from my hands-on care and lots of love. If this is your style, grab it now as this old block only gives us alittle wine each year, less than 200 cases!
