Burford and Brown Wines

Burford and Brown Wines Peter Burford is a product of Sacred Heart College and Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia. Peter has held top winemaking positions for a decade and a half throughout the world, from one of Australia's top icon brands- D'Arenberg Winery to Alexander Valley Vineyards in Healdsburg, California, Renwood/Santino Winery in Amador, California, and one of Asia's largest wineries, the Chateau de Loei in North Eastern Thailand. In 2001 he established Burford and Brown with good friend and former colleague from Alexander Valley Vineyards-Adam Brown. He’s since bought out Adam leaving only the Burford in Burford and Brown. Unlike most terminations of partnerships, Peter and Adam still work closely together on many other wine related projects. Peter has been painstakingly building the brand through hard work and key relationships over the past five years. His access to top vineyards throughout California enables him to expand without compromising quality. Currently he sources Sauvignon Blanc from Lake, Mendocino, Sonoma and Solano counties. He also works with two top Zinfandel vineyards in Amador County and he will be releasing his unbeatable debut vintage in August 2006. Burford and Brown is also the largest producer of Verdelho in the United States. This Portuguese white varietal is grown in Lodi and his 2005 debut release will have the proprietary name-Lady Grace, dedicated to his mother-Grace Pauline Burford. Verdelho is widely planted in Australia and it makes some of the countries finest white wines. Peter originally sourced the fruit as a blender for his Sauvignon Blanc. "Everyone adds Semillon to their Sauvy’s for complexity, I just wanted to have something different and I think it worked, what about you?" For his final release he has gone back to the valley where he first started in California. Alexander Valley produces some of the finest red wines in the world. His 100% Merlot from this region will be released soon after the Zinfandel and he guarantees that this wine will over deliver as well.

Products

  Barbera
This delicious Piedmont-style Barbera offers generous color and dense, melted tannins. Its luscious, plummy fruit is framed by subtle toast seamlessly knit into the plush fabric of its classic varietal expression.
  Lady Grace Verdelho
It shows a brilliant mid straw color. It is definitely the true expression of fruit driven providing intense tropical aromas and flavors. The aroma bursts through with pear, peaches, and apricots. The palate that follows is structured and balanced with flavors of fresh fruit salad and a succulence that envelops the mouth.
  Melanto Terrace Zinfandel
This Zinfandel exhibits a brilliant brick red almost black color with an intense violet tinge. This Zinfandel has the classic spice and succulence associated with the variety. Soft and integrated, this wine over delivers with an extremely rich and balanced mouth feel along with integrated tannins.
  Merlot
Smooth and spicy, an elegant style with well-focused flavors of spicy currant, black cherry, rich fruit aromas. Some classic dust and earthy characters add to the wines complexity. Touches of pipe tobacco and spicy oak lend weight to the finish, trailed by firm, assertive tannins. This dual appellation wine provides the drinker with a sense of the region where it is grown. The Carneros portion of Napa Valley is much cooler with fog playing a part of this. Hence it has a more delicate and refined aroma and flavor profile. Enjoy this wine with a wide range of food: from pasta to hearty meat dishes, or of course, all by itself!
  Non-Vintage Verdelho
Burford and Brown’s debut release of their traditional Solero System Verdelho. Only four barrels each year are made from the Ehler’s Vineyard of Lodi-the system was started in 2005. This rare treat displays aromas of stone fruits, walnuts/pecans and orange peel which continue through to a long, fresh lingering finish. Like most dessert wines it has been handcrafted and minimally processed to retain structure. It is a cross between a Sherry (dryness) and a Tawny Port (nuttiness). This delight is fortified to 18.5% with 100% grape neutral spirit.
  Pinot Grigio
The color is classical pale straw with a slight yellow hue. Elegant melon and pear are complimented by undertones of citrus. It has a soft texture and a balanced acidity. This wine is only 12.8% alcohol which provides a crisp finish and thing called minerality. A very cool fermentation between 55-58 degrees captured the fruity aromas and flavors. Excellent with shellfish, oysters and rich cheeses.
  Sauvignon Blanc
This is an extremely fruit forward, user-friendly wine. It has a brilliant pale straw color. The delicate fruit aromas and flavors in this wine were captured during an extended, cold stainless steel fermentation. This handcrafted wine separates itself stylistically from all other Sauvignon Blanc wines currently on the market. It combines a mineral quality with intense tropical and spicy aromas and flavors. Spiciness is another descriptor for the classic herbaceous/cut-grass/cat-pee style made popular by New Zealand wineries. All the Burford and Brown wines must be varietally distinct, so some aromas/flavors consisting of the above should be present, however, not dominating. We are proud to say that there is no other blend in the market right now like this one.
  The Crusader Syrah
This inky Syrah displays incredible layers of black pepper and vanilla revolving around a core of blackberries and red cherries, complimenting the wines full bodied structure. It has an elegant and silky tannin profile that will continue to develop with further cellaring.
  Verdelho
It shows a brilliant mid straw color. It is definitely the true expression of fruit driven providing intense tropical aromas and flavors. The aroma bursts through with pear, peaches, and apricots. The palate that follows is structured and balanced with flavors of fresh fruit salad and a succulence that envelops the mouth.
