Gallo Family Vineyards

Gallo Family Vineyards n crafting our award-winning Gallo of Sonoma wines, our winegrowers and winemakers embark on a careful journey from vine to wine. It all begins in Sonoma County, where cool ocean breezes, lingering coastal fog, and the warm sun nurture the grapes. It culminates with patient barrel-by-barrel tasting during fermentation and aging, to ensure that the potential tasted on the vine is captured in the bottle. We invite you to join us in a glass of wine and experience Sonoma County.

  Anapamu Chardonnay
This Chardonnay exhibits a signature style of juicy pear, butterscotch, and pineapple citrus flavors complemented by spicy oak flavors. We recommend this wine to be served with olive oil based Mediterranean dishes, particularly pasta with pesto or served in a "Alfredo" sauce. This wine will equally pair with fish or fowl dishes with a butter/oil base to the sauce and with Italian seasonings such as basil and tarragon.
  Anapamu Syrah
Anapamu Syrah is a rich crimson color, with enticing aromas of ripe black cherries, violets and sun ripened plums that follow through on the palate. Robust notes of tobacco and white pepper accent the rich fruit. The wine is full bodied, with lush fruit flavors balanced by soft, supple tannins.
  Barrelli Creek Barbera
Our Gallo of Sonoma Barrelli Creek Vineyard Barbera has aromas of dried cherry, raspberry, cranberry, rose, and rosemary, balanced with hints of sweet, toasty French oak. The mouthfeel is highlighted by rich fruit flavors and enhanced by the bright acidity of a great Barbera
  Barrelli Creek Cabernet Sauvignon
winemaker's notes: Very impressive Cabernet Sauvignon, one of the best California Cabs you could ever hope for at this price. This Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a dense, riper fruit style that reflects the vintage. Aged in American oak to balance all of that fruit with a kind of a rugged spiciness. It's a stand-out rich, big, creamy, and intense Cab.
  Barrelli Creek Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon is rich and full-bodied, showcasing intense aromas and flavors of black currant, black cherry, cassis, and anise. With balanced tannins and acidity, the wine has a long, smooth finish.
  Barrelli Creek Zinfandel
Look for zesty aromas of spice, raspberries and blueberries framed by sweet toast from the oak. Loaded with flavors of black cherries, blueberry jam and characteristic black pepper. The wine was aged for an average of 11 months in American and Hungarian oak barrels.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
This is a full, rich wine with concentrated flavors of black cherries, currant, and spice. Excellent structure from the tannins and appealing depth from the months of oak aging.

Our Gallo of Sonoma Charonnay is crafted from the finest grapes throughout Sonoma County. Its the type of wine that pleases both those who love full oaky Chardonnays, and those who want a Chardonnay with crispness and fruit flavors.
  Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
The Gallo family farms eight benchland vineyards in the Sonoma County appellations of Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley, and Sonoma Coast. Carefully selected sites within our vineyards produce the grapes for our Gallo of Sonoma Estate wines. Only the "best of the best" fruit is considered for possible inclusion in these wines, our finest cuvées. After an intense selection process in both the vineyards and at our winery, the blend for our 1998 Estate Bottled Cabernet Sauvignon is mainly from our Stefani Vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley of Sonoma County. Select hand harvesting of fully ripened bunches during late October.
  Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 1999 Estate Cabernet is a balance of power and elegance, showcasing intense aromas of black cherries, spice and toast. Rich flavors of cassis and black currant fruit are framed by sweet vanilla and toast from 24 months of barrel aging in 100% new French Oak.
  Frei Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 1999 Frei Ranch Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has deep aromas and flavors of black cherry, mint, and cassis. The layers of fruit are balanced delightfully with spice and toasty oak.
  Frei Ranch Zinfandel
The Gallo of Sonoma Frei Ranch Vineyard, first planted by Charles Dunz and Andrew Frei in the late 1800’s, is located in the cooler benchlands of Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley.
  Indigo Hills Cabernet Sauvignon
This medium-weight Cabernet offers up a core of jammy red raspberry fruit. Tannins are in support of this forward fruit style. A complement of oak balances the palate and lends further complexity
  Indigo Hills Merlot
This wine was made to highlight the best of what Merlot has to offer – aromas and flavors of black currant, coffee, and cocoa with full, soft tannins. The grapes for our Merlot were selected from vineyards in Sonoma County. Sonoma is characterized by the warm days and cool nights that are key to growing quality grapes. The fog and cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean to the west and San Francisco and San Pablo Bays to the south produce an excellent climate. Under these conditions, grape mature slowly, developing excellent acidity, more intense color, and greater complexity of varietal fruit character.
  Late Harvest Style Chardonnay
Grapes for this wine were picked and sent whole cluster to a membrane press, bypassing the crusher to reduce potential for bitter tannin extraction. The juice was 80% tank fermented and 20% barrel fermented in New French Oak and aged for almost 5 months.
Our Sonoma County Merlot was aged in a combination of French, American, and European oak barrels. This smooth, full-bodied wine has pleasant aromas of raspberry, and an excellent balance between ripe fruit flavors and structured tannins.
Russian River Valley Late Harvest Semillon
Our 2002 Botrytis Semillon is an experimental wine made from grapes grown at our family's Russian River Valley vineyards. We made only three barrels of this scrumptious treat. This wine was made in a true Sauternes style from Botrytis Cinera, the "Noble Rot." The wine has flavors and aromas of ripe pears, apricots, bananas, pineapple, and marshmallow. The wine's fruit flavors are complemented by its sweetness and hints of vanilla from oak aging.
  Russian River Valley Syrah
The grapes for our Syrah were gently destemmed, with 20% to 30% whole berries sent to the fermenter. We find that whole berry fermentation of our Syrah grapes produces concentrated, fresh, and forward black fruit flavors in the finished wine. After 24-48 hours of cold soak , fermentation temperatures were monitored closely and kept between 85-90°F to promote cap circulation for gentle, yet maximum extraction of flavor and body from the grape skins. After fermentation, the wine was 100% barrel aged for an average of 12 months in American, French, and European oak barrels. The wine completed malolactic fermentation to soften the acids. The wine was minimally filtered for clarity and stability.
  Stefani Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 1998 Stefani Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep maroon hue accentuated by aromas cassis and black cherry. This compellingly layered wine leaves a velvety finish with hints of spice and toast. Aged appropriately to enjoy immediately. These Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were hand harvested in late October, providing richer fruit from the extended hang time on the vine. To intensify varietal character, we employed site-specific vertical trellising, and meticulous shoot and leaf removal to ensure that grape clusters received just the right amount of sunlight exposure for optimal ripening.
  Winemaker Signature Meritage
This wine is a blend of the five Bordeaux varietals. Each has been drawn from the best of our vineyards including Monte Rosso, Stefani, Chiotti, and Frei. Much of the blending was done prior to fermentation to ensure seamless flavor integration.
