Melville Vineyards and Winery Our beautiful two-story winery resembles a romantic Mediterranean Villa. Set within a landscape of lavender bushes and poplar, oak, and sycamore trees, the winery is the nucleus of our estate grown Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah vines. While enjoying your glass of fine Pinot Noir, you will be seated in an exquisite Tasting Room, encased by a rotunda of French doors, overlooking a picturesque garden setting and courtyard. So, come join us and become part of the culture of fine wine! Our Tasting Room is 11am-4pm daily. Melville Winery is also available for special events and tours.   2002 Estate Syrah
Aromatically the wine exhibits spicy and earthy characteristics with distinctive lavender and white pepper notes. The subsequent flavors are reminiscent of bright red fruits, such as red cherries and raspberries. Moderate weight in the mouth with firm acidity and drying tannins lead to a long, well delineated finish.
  2003 Estate Syrah
Similar to last year's bottling, the 2003 High-Density offers deep and dastardly aromatics redolent of wild herbs and dark berry fruit mixed with a fresh meatiness. On the palate, these same characteristics are more expansive finishing plush and velvety with ample weight and backbone.
  Chardonnay – Clone 76 Inox
This year’s Inox has a bright golden--green hue marked by subtle nuances of ocean spray and wet sand. White and green floral herbal aromas of gardenia, tarragon and watercress also weave through. Dominant fruit elements become more evident as the wine opens drifting towards green and orange melon, yellow dried-fruit, lime skin and citrus oil. The palate impression is lively and vivacious and balanced by a velour-like fleshy texture. The 2005 Inox ends slightly fuller than previous vintages yet remains graceful .
  Estate Chardonnay
This year’s chardonnay shows similar characteristics of previous vintages mirroring the racy, lemony and minerally style that is so indicative of the extreme cold and windy conditions of the Santa Rita Hills appellation. From the glass, refined aromas of candied lemon and lime intermingle with nuances of pie-crust, spice cake and wet chalk. Similar senses are noticeable in the mouth and are supported by hints of yellow grapefruit, cinnamon and gingerbread. On the palate, the wine is lively and fresh, remaining both elegant and gracious, leaving a bright and lengthy finish.
  Estate Chardonnay
Consistent with last year's vintage, the 2004 Inox has similar clean oceanic delineations reminiscent of chalk, slate and wet sand intermixing with a freshness redolent of watercress, cucumber and candied green apple. Other fruit aromatics drift towards Asian pear, green melon, citrus oil and stone fruit. An enticing white floral component of calla lilly also threads through the wine. Texturally, it is more plush and graceful allowing the dried fruit nuances and a salinity to weave through, finishing with great persistence and length
  Estate Pinot Noir – Carrie's
Unique from Terraces, this wine showcases a dark, rich and wild black fruit profile redolent of black currant, boysenberry and black raspberry. Aromatically, Shinto spice, spice cake, nutmeg, ginger and dried herbs also permeate creating a serious and sensual experience. These motifs only continue expanding and developing on the palate offering a substantial and well-rounded finish.
  Estate Pinot Noir – Clone 115 Indigène
Indigène receives its name from the indigenous, or native yeast, with which it was fermented. It is 100% Dijonnaise clone 115 and is the only wine produced at Melville where wild yeasts is employed. 0% stem inclusion. Yields at 3.9 lbs / plant. 14.2% alcohol.
  Estate Pinot Noir – High Density
Ethereal white and red fruit aromas of currant, cranberry and watermelon dominate while a fresh clove, rhubarb, lime pie nuance lingers in the background. Sweet hay, rose petals and lime skin also shine through. Texturally these themes continue enhancing its elegance, weight and verve. It is broader and more complete than previous vintages finishing with excellent length and concentration.
  Estate Pinot Noir – Santa Rita Hills
Bright, fresh red and blue fruit components immediately jump from the glass reminiscent of blueberry, black raspberry and plum mixed with Asian spice, cinnamon and pumpkin skin. A thread of minerality underlines the wine while other nuances of gardenia and roasted red beets become prominent. Texturally, the wine has broad and ample weight balanced by a focused verve that drives an extended finish.
  Estate Pinot Noir – Terraces
This wine radiates with lofty fruits reminiscent of red currant and raspberry, blueberry and tropical fruit infused with white floral hints of narcissus and orange/lime blossom. Temple and baking spices, hazelnut and cocoa also subtly emanate. On the palate, all these sensations weave harmoniously together forming a very alluring and enticing wine finishing with a powerful yet graceful elegance.
  Estate Syrah
Distinctly reminiscent aromatically of a cold-climate wine with wild blackberry, boysenberry and fresh herb qualities, purple flowers and black cracked peppers. Bacon fat nuances also intermingle with an earthy, black licorice and white floral component. Texturally, the palate continues with these similar motifs giving the wine great depth, complexity and a glycerin-like, satiny finish.
  Estate Viognier
This wine has a clean golden green hue that is full of exotic fruit components such as guava and cherimoya that intermingle with spices of coconut oil, basil-pineapple and hazelnut. Yellow-dried fruit nuances of apricot and papaya also emanate along with a slate and gravel profile. Texturally it has excellent acidity enveloping the palate balanced by a deft richness that is both complex and graceful.
