Esca Wines

Esca Wines Esca Wines is a collaboration between the husband and wife winemaking team, Mario and Anna Monticelli. They met at UC Davis while earning their degrees in Viticulture and Enology. Mario is a fourth generation winemaker who’s father immigrated from Italy. Mario has been making wine since he was a child at his grandparent’s winery. Mario’s winemaking experience includes a harvest at Antinori in Tuscany, Italy and several years as Philippe Melka’s assistant in the Napa Valley. He is currently the winemaker for Quixote Winery in the Stag’s Leap district of Napa. Anna worked her first harvest at Château Cheval Blanc in Bordeaux, France. She was the assistant winemaker at Seavey Vineyard in St. Helena and then was the assistant winemaker at Bryant Family Vineyard in the Napa Valley for four years. She is currently the winemaker at Pina Cellars in Rutherford. Anna and Mario created Esca so they could produce great wines. They believe that one should enjoy life by sharing good food and wine with family and friends. Esca means “allurement” or “bait” in Italian. Just as the nectar of the Hibiscus flower attracts the bee on the label, these wines entice the enophile.
